Title: Knitting For The Dolls
Post by: Ann on May 22, 2019, 10:23:06 AM
I do quite a bit of knitting and love to knit for the dolls. I just finished this pattern the other day.

I love how the pattern fits the doll and I love the color (Mallard Teal). The yarn is Paton's DK wool and was a delight to knit.

I also knit a long scarf out of acrylic and wound it around the doll's neck. The next time I knit it, I'll make it another 25 rows longer.

I'm pleased with the results of this pattern.

That outfit looks so warm and cosey.  I wouldn't mind one in my size.  :)

Your dolly looks gorgeous!

I finished a hooded vest for the dolls. This one is made out of cotton yarn and was nice to work with. The pattern fits well and will great with leggings and a t-shirt.

I'm taking a bit of time off doll clothes to finish a scarf that I started about 6 months ago.

Another doll's sweater is done. This one took a bit of time to get the gauge correct but the time spent was worth it.

(http://It is hard to find that weight yarn locally so am trying to use up the stash of which I have the blue, grey, cream and dusty rose.)

Trying to finish another doll's sweater and I finally got past row 3. Hopefully it will be done this week as I have another one to make before the end of the month.

I finished another sweater for the dolls and love the look. I'm very partial to the Hudson Bay blankets and this cute coat is a reminder of them.

Though easy to knit, it is time consuming to finish as there are a lot of ends to weave in and hems to sew up. But, I've done some googling and found a few new techniques to try when knitting with color changes.

Mary Ann is ready for Canada Day, unless it gets very hot here; the forecast says 20C. Maybe she can wear it in an air conditioned building. LOL

Lovely doll’s clothes. Do you sell them or keep them all? Mary Ann is lucky  :D , she looks great , very pretty, but unusual, with her slightly prominent teeth. <3

This sweater will be kept but I am sewing and knitting to get an inventory ahead so I can sell outfits rather than pieces.

One of the things with American Girl dolls is that some have slightly prominent teeth. I favor the ones with no teeth showing. I only have the two AG dolls as my favorite are the Gotz Happy Kidz dolls. I have 4 of them.

Another doll's dress knit. It is made out of an acrylic/mohair blend in a dusty mauve.

Am knitting another Bella Bolero while waiting for the next pattern to be sent via email.

@b15erk, thank you. I enjoy sewing and knitting for the dolls. I test patterns for doll clothing designers and they design some really nice pieces.

The test pattern for a private individual is complete and it quite cute. It fits well which is what I like.

I'm working on another one and am almost finished the second sleeve. This one has cables.

Another outfit done and this one is cute.

I'm going to be one happy camper when the yarn I have been using for testing is gone. I'm not a huge fan of it but the price was good. Once gone, I will buy some nicer yarn to knit with.

@Celia, thank you for your kind words. I will use up the yarn as much as I dislike it. If the designer keeps pumping out the patterns using that size wool, it will be gone before I know it. If not, the full balls will go to goodwill next spring.

I got another sweater set knit and used the same Downton Abbey yarn as before but the blue.

I went down a needle size and it fits the doll perfectly.  Now back knitting hats.

Another sweater using the Downton Abbey yarn. This time in grey. Cute pattern with two types of cables.

The stash of Down Abbey yarn is getting smaller. I have a hat to knit to go with this sweater and I may knit mittens also.

Just love these outfits Ann!  One day I'll get the time and patience to clothe the dollies I bought in the summer!

Do you use any particular patterns? Or do you write your own?

@b15erk, thank you for the lovely words. Sorry I'm so long at answering as I haven't checked this thread.

I am a pattern tester for Pixie Faire (doll clothes sewn and knit) plus for a private individual. I enjoy knitting with finer yarn vs sport weight yarn but each weight has its own purpose. I have found that most (not all) North American's use a sports weight yarn as it is fast and quite readily available. The lighter weight yarn is slower to knit but I love the results. I have patterns using sock yarn but the last 4 I've knit are in a bit heavier yarn. It seems to be easier to find in the UK and South Africa and harder to find here. I bought a bunch of that weight yarn when it was discounted and have enough left for 4-5 more tests.

Have fun knitting for your dolls when you get the time. I do enjoy knitting for mine.

I've done more knitting and have finally got them photographed.

This was a test pattern and it was quite fun to knit up. I want to sew a skirt to go with it when the machines get back from servicing.

This pattern I tested quite a while ago. I made this one to perfect the fit. I am thinking one size larger needles for the hat. I'm fussy on fit.

I'm knitting a dress right now and am 2/3rds the way done it. I keep plugging away at it and hope to have it done soon.

Third time lucky with this dress. First time the fit was off. Second time I found a dropped stitch 28 rows back. This time I got it done. I had to lengthen it by knitting 11 extra rows but the length is perfect in my opinion. It needs buttons as mine are too big. I'll get them Wednesday.

I'm taking a break from knitting doll clothes and am doing a course to knit a child's sweater. It is very simple and a bit boring but it's filling my knitting needs at the moment.

I used up the last of some yarn given to me. It was a cotton polyester blend and it knits up beautifully. I decided to knit a sweater pattern I had tested 9 months ago. It is easy but quite cute. I was short yarn for the cast off row so did it in another color. So it became known as the barn sweater.

I'm knitting mittens right now and they are fiddly to do. I will cast off one tonight and start the other. When it is done, I'll go back and do the thumbs. They are hard to do and I need to have lots of patience when doing them.

Post by: Ann on March 20, 2020, 10:37:23 AM
The mittens got put on hold as 2 patterns arrived to be tested. The first is a sweater that is growing on me.

It is a bulky style using fine yarn. Expensive fine yarn on my part.

The second pattern has a hat and sweater. I've finished the hat and it is really cute.

I'm knitting the second sleeve and then it's on to the body of the sweater. I'm slow at this as I don't have a good way of knitting with 2 yarns and it isn't without trying to learn a way.

Another sweater is done. Jennie is modeling it for me this time.

I quite like the asymmetrical front on this one and I put a bigger button on to make that feature the focus. I also used a different yarn for testing for this designer and it worked out perfectly.
