Yes I saw those @Francesca but none of them seem to have had a problem with the waist being too small. Progress on this project is abysmally slow, but I’m thinking slow and steady wins the race!  :(

Great job, well done!

I’m the same as @Nevis5 - black makes me look ill , so I rarely sew it. I have similar issues though with navy or dark brown, and  it doesn’t help that my sewing room is quite dark. A magnifying lamp is essential!

Many thanks for your reply @Kwaaked I was struggling to understand what you mean so I tried with a separate traced off piece and now I get it!

I’m using New Look K6391 to make a party dress,

in a poly satin (red just like the sample 😏). The toile I made of the bodice showed that I needed to add 5 inches to the waist- not surprising as the pattern measurements gave 28 inches for the size 14 waist! I’m making View A with the pleats at the bodice side seam which has made adjusting the waist difficult! I just wondered if anyone else has tackled this?

What wonderful outfits you have made @Ann so talented!  I bet they don’t impact the stash very much. 😃

Wow that doesn’t sound like easing back to me! 😬

I tried to upload a better angle photo but I can’t do it. I don’t want to do it through Imgur just in case it is seen by the recipients before Christmas. I’ll do a better one then.

I really like that coat worn by the Duchess of Cambridge yesterday, being a zip freak, suited me down to the ground.
I thought exactly the same @Gernella it was lovely!

All excellent entries, as everyone has said it is really difficult to pick one!

Fun with Fabric / Re: Pre-washing

This thread has been interesting and explains why the fabric for the striped top I also made this week wouldn’t line up after I’d washed it. Both the front and the back were cut on the fold and I decided that it was more important to match the stripes at the side seams than get it exactly on grain. I haven’t washed it yet so hopefully won’t have an issue there!  :S

Thanks so much @mums sewing machine , I would just mention that the neckline as drafted is very wide. When I cut it out next time, I may adjust the pattern to bring it in a bit rather than adding a neckband.

I finished this top a couple of days ago, it’s Vogue 8950, here   The navy and yellow is a loop back jersey and the yellow is from a remnant bought in France. In hindsight a simple yellow Ponte would have been better for the yoke as they would have been a similar weight. Instead this is a heavy fleece back jersey which has very little stretch.

The neckline was way too wide for me for a winter top so I had to put a neckband on which is where the no stretch issue really caused me a problem. The first one I cut wouldn’t fit the opening no matter how hard I tried. The resulting neckline is I feel slightly loose but not so much that I won’t wear it, I’m reasonably happy with it.
