Fun with Fabric / Fabric search - light coloured skulls
« on: August 11, 2020, 22:54:24 PM »
Most of my summer dresses are dark coloured (no surprise there).

Does anyone recollect seeing any skull-printed fabric on a light background in fabric suitable for hot weather?

I dont mean cute, day-of-the dead type skulls, I mean real looking skulls, with perhaps roses etc.

Goth Gardiner’s entry

A Chanel style jacket with almost Goth style trims. Made for me.

Pattern was originally vogue 7975. Over the years I have tweaked it, including shortening the shoulder and increasing the size of the armsythe and sleeve.  I shortened the sleeve and drafted a cuff.  The "flare" at the b bottom is an addition for this pattern as I wanted the length but didn't have enough fabric.

Fabric was a piece of pink demin with a black weft (or is it the other way around?), left over from making a dress..

Just as I was finishing part of the lace tore, so had to do a quick repair, it was on the front obviously!

Goth Gardener jacket entry continued

I really only wanted to use stuff I already had. Uncombined lace, black tape and machine embroidery too made the embellishments:

I didn't line this, as i wanted  more of a demin jacket look rather than a polished and lined item but am quite pleased with the inside, especially the Hong Kong finish.

Technical Help / Re: Patterned fabric

If lack of pattern matching and broken patterns bothers you I would find a pattern with fewer darts and keep this pattern for plains, small prints or geometrics.

I have the morplan pattern master, a cheap set if French curves and the dressmakers ruler.  I can't remember the last time I used the ruler. However the pattern master i use quite a bit, and the French curves every time I draft something.

Cost of the materials and three hours of your time at minimum wage.

If you do it for any less then make her promise not to tell anyone what you charged or else you will have other people wanting a bespoke item at knock down rates.

You could offer her one in lieu of her next birthday or Christmas present.

Or black???

Yeah ... I know, I'll slink back to the Darkside ....

I would do black too. For the non-black choice I would do ivory, rather than grey.

I think it looks perfect as it is.  But! for a dressy dress I would show a little more flesh somewhere, probably at the neckline then you could wear a nice necklace with it.

But, if you are happy with it as it is leave it as it is.

Different designs. Different thread both top and bottom.
Doesn't do a basting stitch.
Multiple swearwords and various threats.

It's an old machine that I got second hand years ago. It's not had much use, but I had was going to make some lace bats and butterflies to add to an evening dress.

As it's had so little use I couldn't justify buying a new one, but it was nice to be able to make the odd decorated bag etc.

Sigh.

Hi,

No way of turning off the sensors that I can see.

Having googled grub screws ...  no idea as I can't see any even using a magnifying glass.   It then I don't have a grub screwdriver either.

Have been playing around. If I move the needle manually by using the wheel it goes up and down. If I use the electronics to see a pattern the needle doesn't move, it does the first stitch then stays at its highest position.

Crying doesn't seem to help.

Thank you for doing all this hard work. We probably don't know half of what you do behind the scenes, but I for one am jolly grateful.

I have been watching it on slow speed and when seeing a pattern the needle isn't going up and down.  Nor does the needle move when using the hand wheel.

But if I switch it off and use the handwheel the needle does go up and down.
