@Ohsewsimple thank you, that’s very helpful. I keep being drawn to the Jaguar overlockers.
I’m mostly housebound so getting out is difficult under normal circumstances. We’re in Tier 4 so almost impossible now 😞
I think I’ll make a few phone calls when the holiday is over and chat to some of the sellers. I was recommended Sewing machines direct from this group and they were helpful when I bought my sewing machine so they will be first on my list 😊

I received some money to put towards an overlocker and the more research I do the more confused I seem to get!
I have been looking at the following models and would be very interested to hear your personal experience of these. I’ve been recommended to get a 2, 3, 4 thread model. Also, do I need a free arm on an overlocker? If so, this would take the Jaguar off my list 🤔

Huskvana Huskylock S15
Are there any others in this price range that you think I should look at?

I spoke to Sam at Janome Customer Service this morning and she advised that there isn't a way to turn off the lock stitch at the beginning of the zig zag stitch 
They are set like that, but you do have the option to lock or reverse stitch at the end!
Not the answer we were looking for, but it's an answer
I think starting the stitch on a scrap piece of fabric suggested earlier in this thread is going to be the best solution for me to avoid this. Just have to remember before I hit the pedal!

« on: November 13, 2020, 08:26:25 AM »@Vezelay I have been scouring my Instruction manual for my Janome (5270QDC) this week as I noticed that mine is annoyingly doing the same on zigzag stitch. If you get a response from Janome please let us know! I’m in the U.K. so if I am able I will call them and let you know if I get any closer to a solution x

We do have two fur babies 😺😸 so I’m making sure I throw a tea towel over it at the moment. Maybe I’ll get some inspiration and energy to make something a little more exciting, but there’s always something else I’d rather do!
I’m very fortunate as I’m able to leave ‘Jessie’ out and set up downstairs otherwise I wouldn’t get to use her at all 💙

That’s a great idea. In fact, my OH just said why don’t you make a cover to go over the whole thing and put the rigid cover away. He’s got a lot of confidence in me! I think a tea towel is a great starting point 😃

Sewing Machines / To cover or not to cover 🤔

As someone with ME every activity, no matter how small, has consequences on my health. So it’s easier for me to keep my machine uncovered so that when I’ve got a little energy I can do a little bit. This maybe as little as 10 minutes here and there or longer on a better day.
If I want to cover ‘Jessie’ with the supplied plastic hard cover after each use I have to remove the extension table, the knee bar, unplug the power and foot pedal cables which is all energy I’d rather use sewing!
Is it ok to leave it set up so it’s always ready when I am?!

It isn’t very robust and I think I needed to be a little more careful than I was, but I can see how it may work if I do more binding in the future. Think I’m going to add the Janome specific one to my Christmas list as I perhaps maybe misunderstood how the measurements of bias binding work 🤦🏼♀️

OMG we must be kindred spirits as I thought I was the only one that named inanimate objects. My electric wheelchair is called Buddy and my manual one is Wally. The OH has a hard time to keep up sometimes. I could go on ....
My original New Home was called Susan and my new Janome is called Jessie. I'd love to hear what other people call their sewing machines x

« on: November 05, 2020, 19:36:27 PM »@Goth Gardiner I've ordered the generic foot as I don't believe the official Janome will work for my project, but will only give it a go if it sits correctly on the plate. I'll let you know how I get on.
I can see my first experience of working with binding could be fun, so I'll definitely be adopting your hope for the best technique, although I think I may have also mastered that already
