Try Aldi, Lidle or a pound shop first.

If you get one of those Teflon oven liners and punch a small hole for the needle it can really help.

I tape mine down with masking tape and it works fine.

Just remember to check your bobbin is full before you tape it down!

Me neither and looking at last year's winning entries, it not my sort of thing anyway.  I also don't care to be judged by a certain ex-Sewing bee contestant.

Utta is it safe you assume you are not referring to Stuart?

What a brilliant idea!

We wouldn't need a tutor, there is enough expertise among this group.

Just a couple of days with people who understand why I love sewing so much.

A Good Yarn / Re: Blocking??

A gentle wash is the best way I've found for evening everything out, stitches seem to settle into place.

Then, as you say, press between layers of towels. You can press very firmly here, my friend puts hers on the floor and stands on it, walking carefully over the whole area, it helps to draw the water out.  I then lay out on a dry towel and smooth everything into shape.  I only find the need to pin if anything is rolling up where it shouldn't, but I'm not as professional as Fran.

Patterns Discussion / Re: Coat Pattern

I've just made Jalie 2680 (sorry can't do links on a tablet).

It's not as fitted as the drawing shows, my waist went west years ago and mine fitted fine without alteration.

It went together quickly and easily and has an option for a hood included.

It's not lined but that should not be too hard an addition.

I used soft shell fleece and did not need any interfacing at all.

I absolutely love your fabric combo Acorn, whatever pattern you choose I'm sure it will be a fab coat.

If you're anything like me by the time you've found the damn thing, gone downstairs for new batteries, broken a nail removing battery cover, you could have wound a new bobbin or two and rethreaded and sewn another seam.

Alternatively you would probably know exactly where it is, have a plentiful supply of batteries to hand and the correct tool to remove said battery cover.

All pieces cut and labelled, new needle in, bobbins wound, iron cleaned.

All I've got to do is survive tomorrow with the DGSs and then I can play.

Oh Dark Side, I've been away too long.  0_0

Congratulations to everybody who entered,  lovely work on such a small scale.

At least you have the satisfaction that it is no longer a UFO.

Plus at least you have something in your wardrobe suitable for a smart occasion.

We feel your pain.  Unpicking is soul destroying esp on fraying fabric, but still be worth it in the end I'm sure ;)

Overlockers & Coverstitchers / Coverstitch looped thread
« on: November 02, 2017, 15:11:08 PM »
What are all you peeps using for looper thread on your coverstitch?

At the moment I use woolly nylon with average results, not bad but could be better. As most things I make are just for me, it's not been a problem but I would like to up my game a little and get a more professional finish.

Most forums I've seen seem to recommend Maxilock but does anybody have any other suggestions?

Should I be ashamed my life is so boring I have no need of winter glitz or for that matter any other type of glitz. |O

Looking forward to seeing what those with more exciting lives produce
