Today... One thread per day / Friday 4th December
« on: Yesterday at 05:53:15 »
Morning, I'm up early again, snuggled up in a blanket on the sofa. When I looked out earlier I saw a fox ambling about in the garden. I haven't seen one for ages, there is a small wood about half a mile away which I think they hide up in during the day. Rain forecast for today again. Have a good day and keep warm and dry.

Today... One thread per day / Tuesday 1st December
« on: December 01, 2020, 06:50:09 AM »
Morning, it's me again and there is a promise of sunshine today. Yesterday was gloomy all day long and I felt the same. Must buck my ideas up today and get some fresh air. Breakfast now.

In the wardrobe / Wrap over jersey dress
« on: November 23, 2020, 07:25:10 AM »
This lovely bright jersey is from CroftMill, I have only made one wrap dress before, it wasn't a success. There was a thread recently about the pro's and con's of wrap dresses. I am going to have another go when I am able and I've got my machine back.
The pattern was a freebie with a sewing magazine.

In the wardrobe / Jersey dress M 6886
« on: November 14, 2020, 11:28:30 AM »
I have been working on this for several weeks because of my painful hips I cannot sit for long to sew and now my machine is in for a service. The fabric is a very dark navy viscose Jersey with pink tulips on it and a few slim green leaves. All I have got to do is sew the side seams, put the sleeves in and finish the hem. I have added a cowl like collar from another pattern. I'll post a photo when I can.

Sewing Machines / Brother Innovis A80
« on: October 22, 2020, 10:54:03 AM »
Does anyone have this machine? Any comments on its performance would be welcome, I can't afford to upgrade very much. I just want a reliable and workaday machine. My Alfa 30 is in for a service and it maybe a few weeks before I can sew again. Thanks in advance.

In the wardrobe / Plum coloured trousers
« on: June 22, 2020, 09:40:02 AM »
I've started to cut out these trousers using McCall's 6901,  the fabric is a plum/maroon smooth, tightly woven cotton with a little stretch. I do away with the fly front and and put a zip in the centre back, I am using a contrast in a lighter weight cotton for the waist facings and the pocket. I haven't been able to cut out the legs yet, I've only done the small pieces. The sciatica of yesterday is OK (so far) today so I'll try to do some more today - how I hate this slow progress :(  but I have to do what I can when I can.

In the wardrobe / Skirt with poppy fabric
« on: May 31, 2020, 10:22:39 AM »
I have cut out and tacked an eight panelled skirt using a lovely light and floaty lawn with a poppy print. An easy project after two pleated ones :) . Might do some sewing later but I am feeling rather lazy today.

In the wardrobe / Pleated skirt
« on: May 18, 2020, 11:15:15 AM »
I've just cut out a skirt using the dress pattern McCalls 7714, I am making  it longer - about mid calf. I am having a rest before I start on 28 tailor tacks for the pleats. I am using the teal cotton lawn with the small floral pattern.

Fun with Fabric / Latest online shop
« on: May 17, 2020, 10:18:04 AM »
These lovely fabrics arrived yesterday, with the poppies fabric I intend to make a long 8 panelled skirt, the dark blue will probably be a fit a nd flare dress  and the teal small floral a pleated skirt, I'll use the skirt pattern from the last dress I made.

In the wardrobe / McCalls 7714 view B dress
« on: April 02, 2020, 16:40:38 PM »
Today I cut this dress out from the pretty Pamplona floral cotton lawn, it took some time but I am back in the sewing world :)  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
This version has a full skirt with unpressed pleats so lots of marking (tailor tacks)  to be done. I ached for a while afterwards but felt better after filling up with couscous and lots of vegetables. Just had a little snooze. More sewing tomorrow I hope.

Fun with Fabric / New fabric for a summer skirt/dress
« on: March 23, 2020, 09:43:46 AM »
I've just received this pretty cotton lawn from Croftmill
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]  I'll probably make a long skirt out of it as it is very light and airy, just perfect for a hot summer day and lots of colours in the pattern so easy to pick a t-shirt to go with it.

In the wardrobe / Nightshirts
« on: March 23, 2020, 09:37:58 AM »
I'm sewing the second one now, both are made using M6886, the longest length with long sleeves, very simple but ideal when sewn with a cotton jersey, really cosy to snuggle up in bed.
These are the 2 fabrics, the grey/blue llamas one is brushed cotton so I've made it a lot larger to allow for wriggle room, the pink is cotton jersey and is very soft and warm even though it is quite thin.

In the wardrobe / Purple wool cape
« on: January 20, 2020, 15:27:24 PM »
I managed to get the cape cut out earlier, it took ages as I had to keep stopping to stretch my back. I'll see how I am tomorrow and do some more.

Patterns Discussion / Cape New Look 6535
« on: November 25, 2019, 10:37:19 AM »
As mentioned in my Today post I'm thinking about making this cape  View C and I wondered if anyone has made it. There are only 2 reviews on Pattern Review. I had a cape which I bought whilst holidaying in North Wales eons ago and to be honest they are not the easiest things to wear, I remember particularly how awkward the cape was when I was driving, but I don't drive now and I mostly walk and use public transportso I should feel more comfortable. I think I will make it in a wool or wool mix - perhaps I had better start looking ;)

In the wardrobe / Sage green tweed long skirt
« on: November 04, 2019, 15:45:45 PM »
I've just cut out the 8 panels for the long skirt, I'll have get some lining for it locally. The fabric is a lovely soft wool so it should be warm and cosy. Anglian Fashion Fabrics had 20% off wool fabrics last week when I bought it :)
