Fun with Fabric / Sun shade fabric
« on: May 27, 2019, 09:22:43 AM »
I am looking for some fabric to make a sun shade for a window. I was thinking something like the stuff that the shades for car windows are made of. Has anyone come across any to buy by the metre? The only stuff I can see comes from China and didn't want to go down that route.
Alternatively anyone any ideas what else I can use. It has to provide good shade but you can still see through it.

Just finished. I know I have said before I don't do instructions, which seems to horrify people, so for the purpose of making this I did start to follow the instructions. Very strange they were too, far too many raw edges for my liking. See the photo of the bottom/side bands pinned to the front, you are just supposed to sew these on as they are! Soon gave the instruction sheet the heave ho and put the bands on using the burrito method (2nd photo). I didn't have enough fabric to self line the side bands so used some grey cotton. It is also lined with silver grey poly lining. I did have to shorten the pattern by about 4 inch (which a lot of people have had to do when you read the pattern review).
@Francesca recognise the fabric?

Your Favourite Suppliers / Brother spare parts
« on: April 17, 2019, 18:02:54 PM »
I have been looking recently for a new thread guide for my Brother Innovis 3 embroidery machine. I came across this site. Although my part wasn't listed I contacted the company who very promptly sent me a diagram of the part to confirm it was the one I was looking for.
Dispatched very quickly and now fitted.
Will definitely use them again, very helpful.

Patterns Discussion / Pattern Lab
« on: April 16, 2019, 17:28:25 PM »
I did review this company  a while ago and decided against buying a block as I kept getting messages saying my measurements didn't fit with their standards and therefor they couldn't guarantee a good fit.
Well after a few disasters with fitting recently I decided that I really did need a new block, although I have drafted them myself in the past I find it a bit of a headache so decided to take the plunge and fork out £8 for the Pattern Lab block.
After putting all my measurement in they produce a PDF pattern for you.
It was almost perfect, with a little bit of tweaking with the slope of the shoulder and removing a little excess from the up chest it now fits like a dream. So impressed with the fit around the bust and the position of the darts I wish I had done this sooner.

Fun with Fabric / Leaking denim
« on: April 12, 2019, 17:53:43 PM »
Today I went to the fabric shop in Barnsley that is closing down. Very uninspiring and not that much discounted. I did however buy some denim to make this
Put it in washing machine and the water was bright blue throughout the wash and now my hands are a lovely shade of blue from handling the wet fabric.
I will probably have to fix the dye before I make the dress, the last thing I need is blue legs.
Would you just wash it again and put some salt in the water or is there a better method.

Embroidery Machines / Recommendations for supplyers of spare parts
« on: April 02, 2019, 18:44:42 PM »
Can anyone recommend an on line supplier who specialisers in Brother innovis v3 spare parts. I am looking for the thread guide that is on the needle shaft. Mine appears to be sprained/broken as the thread keeps jumping out.
