Technical Help / Another collar question
« on: June 19, 2020, 09:16:48 AM »
OK, so in all my years of sewing i have not yet found a good method of dealing  with those pesky little triangle you have when you have attached the collar band to the garment. I have tried cutting them close to the stitch line, not ideal. Cutting the stand a slightly different shape on the edge, no that didn't work. I usually end up shoving them inside and quickly sewing the edge then give it a good bashing with my toffee hammer (oh so useful for lots of sewing technique's).
But the result is always the same, a bumpy lump.
Anyone any tips?

In the wardrobe / Indigo Junction Shift dress
« on: June 18, 2020, 19:01:05 PM »
A quick and easy make today just so i don't sit and fret. Yes it is another square dress for my square body.
I have made this about 4 times now but for some reason   this was too tight around the arm, not sure what i have done but ended up putting a v shaped piece into the sleeve/side seam. Now fits perfectly.

Fun with Fabric / Looking for Aria fabric
« on: June 14, 2020, 17:22:52 PM »
I am searching for Andover/makeower fabric called Aria. It has sheet music print. Has anyone come across any in the UK. The only sites I can find are American.
THIS is the fabric.

Fancy an hour or two of "shopping" for fabric, saw this and thought of you

In the wardrobe / Pauline Alice Denia blouse
« on: May 20, 2020, 18:26:58 PM »
Two more Denia blouses. I first made this patterns last summer and have become quite addicted. It is the best fitting blouse I have ever made. The only alteration I made to the pattern was to cut a pie wedge from the side of the tie as I found it stuck out too much. So now I have a straight side seam. Majority of the construction o do on the overlocker and it takes about 1 1/2 to complete, including the buttonholes and sewing the buttons on.
The grey one is viscose, not sure I will use this fabric again, you only have to look at it and it creases. The second is a Liberty lawn, it came, unexpected, with another piece of fabric I won on eBay so a free blouse, what's not to like.

Dotty Print have a lint to 20% of Sewing Revival patterns and then 20% of the printing costs. You don't have to use them for printing, if you prefer just print at home.
I have received my pattern today, ordered on Monday so impressed with service.

What lies beneath... / Looking for a pattern
« on: May 17, 2020, 09:38:14 AM »
I have a couple of summer dresses that really needed lining but decided to make a slip so that I can wear it with a number of light weight dresses.
I am looking for a pattern that has bust support (cups) and ideally one for cotton fabric. I have tried a couple of free downloads but cannot seem to get the fit right.
Any suggestions on suitable patterns would be gratefully received.

A long shot but has anyone got this issue from April 2013? I have found a pattern to down load for a vintage slip but the sizes are colour coded and I cannot find any reference as to what the sizes are.

In the wardrobe / Style Arc Teddy and Vogue 8499
« on: April 23, 2020, 17:36:05 PM »
Today I have finished a pair of trousers, these and a Style Arc Teddy top.
You may remember the first time I made the trousers and reported back that they were extremely wide, I have now reduced the width of the leg by about 8 inch (yes they really were that wide) and feel happier with the 2nd pair. I also put a hem facing on and topstitched and this makes them drape better. Because I have taken so much from the width of the leg it did raise the crotch, they are supposed to be a relaxed fit in this area but they now fit like a proper trouser. If I make them again I will adjust the pattern and go for the relaxed crotch. (if I ever wear them, I am not really a trouser person but have got it into my head that I need some trousers.)
The top is Style Arc teddy

As you all know the instructions on SA leave a lot to be desired but these were appalling. The instructions did not match the drawing I.e. it tells you to sew the interfacing together at shoulders and front and then sew collar onto the top, sew the front seam up and then put facing on. Diagram (and the online video) shows putting collar on then the facing, without the centre seam being sewn up and then once its on sew the centre seam of the top and the facing. Plus the pattern piece for the hem facing does not mention cutting one in fusable but if you look at the list of pattern pieces it says main and fuse.
If you are thinking of making this top I would recommend that you watch the video it makes it all very clear.
I will make this again but will raise the v as it does sit a little low and I will need to wear a cami with it

hope I have done the photo resizing right
