In the wardrobe / Digital patterns from Something Delightful
« on: August 20, 2022, 18:44:01 PM »
I used to buy the occasional paper pattern from Club BMV sales but nothing since it became Something Delightful.

However they have Butterick digital patterns for $3.99 and was thinking of buying one - has any one in the UK bought a digital pattern from them?

Thank you everyone.  I think I don't need to invest where I thought I might!  Now I need to investigate all the suggestions you have given and possibly download and print out a pattern - I haven't done that before -<

I do need to understand FBA and will look out Palmer/Pletsch  DVD, books and patterns.  Its just a shame they stop at size 22/24, but I see a unisex shirt whick may work to try the system out with.

Maybe I also need to buy a dressform and pad it up as I have bought a few clothes to "alter or make 2 into 1" but haven't started on this!  I get a lot of ideas but very few make to finished garments.

In the wardrobe / Plus size Sewing and pattern advice please
« on: June 05, 2021, 17:49:07 PM »
I am not a standard size - short, dumpy and apple shaped. :S  I struggle to find ready made patterns to buy.  I haven't managed to grade a smaller pattern. I have done a small amount of pattern drafting, but struggle without instrctions to follow.
So I was wondering if anyone has any advice?
I am looking at at Lutterloh xxl and Wild Ginger software.  Both pricy to buy and I think I will still have the lack of instrctions.
Petite Patterns Plus are drafted for my kind of figure I believe but aren't big enough size wise they only go up to US size 24 (UK 28).  So is anyone else in this conundrum and / or has any suggestions?

Sewing Machines / Re: Sashiko Machine

Sorry I haven't got one but I have lusted after one.
I do remember seeing some you tube videos on them and an American woman called Evy Hawkins who had written booklets (I think) on using the machines.  She has a web site called A Bit of Stitch and on there is a video of how to thread the machine so that may help. :)
I also kept this link in case I ever bought one.  It won't help with threading but should if you ever get started. https://www.quiltingboard.com/blogs/babylock-sashiko-machine-tips-reduce-thread-breakage-b13272.html

I can recommend Jane White Couture in Barton Upon Humber.  I have done 4 days of pattern drafting with her and really enjoyed it and came away with skirt, bodice and trouser blocks.  I then did a further day recently about moving the darts around blocks.

My local Smiths no longer has these on display.  I asked and they said that they can orfer it but are not getting copies to put on the stand.  Quite a few needle craft and quilting ones have disappeared off their shelves over the last few months. :(
