Bernina 1/4 inch foot

I talked to a quilt shop today about taking classes and they advised me to buy a 1/4 inch foot. (I have a Bernina 570qe.) Is that the number 57 foot? I think there's a 37, too, so it's confusing.

The 37 is a standard ¼-inch foot. The 57 has an edge which is used as a seam guide.Personally I'd get the 37; it's  accurate, you just line up the edges of the fabric with the edge of the foot. I have used one of these edged feet on a friend's machine and it's fine for piecing until you have to join more patches. It won't ride easily over untrimmed points - so you'd have to trim as you go or get the little 'ears' pushed into the seam.

That makes sense. I didn't think about that. I will get the 37  :D

Sewbee, the 37 foot came with my 570QE and is very useful.  You can move the needle one place within it to make a scant seam.

I agree that the 37, without the edge is better and more versatile than the 57. You can always add a stack of post it notes or electrical tape to the bed to act as a guide! You might want to check your model to see if you need 37D rather than just 37 - the top of the foot has a cup shape to the right. Have fun with the quilting!

Glad you all said it came with the machine. I will have to check all the bits and pieces to see if I have it. The machine is presently back in its original box to stay clean while the laminate floor is installed in my new sewing room and the walls are painted. Talk about being in a pickle!

That needs to go on the list of things everyone except me already knew.
Along with not trying to do it with the straight stitch plate.

The 97D is also a 1/4" foot and comes with a screw in guide to line your fabric up against. I often use it without the guide as my "go to" 1/4" foot as more often than not it is the foot I have on the machine. I also have the other 2 feet, just forget to use them as the 97D is always "on". Always better to get the D version of your feet if you have the dual feed pull down thingy.
