@Fabric Lover , both of them are lovely!  I've just been online and bought the pattern - to hell with the expense!

Thank you!

@Fabric Lover , thank you for the pattern number!  Good to have a positive opinion.  I have a feeling I may already have this pattern, I must have a look.  You didn't by any chance make the trousers did you?

@Efemera , I think I was looking at the whole ensemble (the yellow outfit), and lost sight of the fact that the trousers were elasticated.  :(

I'll go and have a look for the blouse pattern...

McCalls M7660

I bought this as it looked so useful for work.  When it arrived I realised that it was a set in sleeve - not a sweater style I usually make.

Pattern Review on the whole was quite positive, apart from the pattern running big.

Anyone here made this one?  Any tips before I plunge in?

B6028 Butterick

Received this in the post yesterday, and I was really looking forward to making a different style of work trousers, and maybe a matching blouse.

Unfortunately, the first disappointment was that the pattern is just for the trousers.   :(  I still liked the style though, so went on to Pattern Review to see what the ladies there had to say.  I was a bit crushed to find that it wasn't a ringing endorsement...

The main criticism seems to be that the pattern runs very big - particularly round the thighs.  Not promising, but there also seems to be a construction problem around the zip.  Hmmm.

Not sure what to do here, make a toile and see how it goes, or just sell it on and look for something else.

Anyone made this?  If so, what are your thoughts?

I would use whatever interfacing you have available, and then back it with a woven fabric  - cotton or poly cotton.  That should give it enough stability to be sat on.

A big welcome from me too!

Look forward to hearing about your progress, and maybe seeing some of your projects.

I can't see any secondary pattern  :(

All I can see is a beautiful crosshatched quilt made with a lot of love!

The rolled hem on the OL looks quite different to the one on the sewing machine @Acorn .  The one on the sewing machine is just a very tiny hem, with a row of stitching on the top. Your machine probably comes with a special foot to do this with, it has a sort of curl on the top.  ;)

I don't always use the CS for hems @Acorn , even though I have one.  I love the look of the three step zig zag  here and use it often.

I have also been known to use a faux hem, or just a simple rolled hem.

Lots of other options too.

If I had to choose one or the other, I would choose the overlocker.  Far more useful.  I only bought my combi because it was an Ebay bargain.  I do love it, but I use the OL option far more than I use the CS.

Lovely napkins Morzel!

I've used to same technique to make 'receiving blankets' for babies.  Simple, but very effective.

@Acorn , yes that's a Coverstitcher.  Used for decorative effects, hems etc.

I have a Pfaff machine that does both in one machine - it is a bit of a learning curve though.  I don't use the CS option half as much as I use the OL.
