I've been putting curly jersey to good use.
A couple if times recently I have received fabric nicely packaged with a strip of jersey used as a tie - I can't remember from where. What a good idea I thought.
I have just set about warping my new floor loom and needed several ties of varying length for different parts of the process. So, out came my jersey remnants and rotary cutter and a number of inch strips later I now have a bundle of very useful stretchy ties.
