Lovely machine and cabinet. And you have had the satisfaction of a good defluff thrown in! I share your zigzagger pain - any I have spotted have gone for over £100, and that just seems insane.

I am sure the 201 will clean up as nicely as your 66 @Bill

It has @charley  :D
For whatever reason, the machine worked fine when I tested it at the previous owners home. Today has been a different story. First there was the dust and fluff. All sorted now. That included taking the hook and bobbin case to bits aswell as the top thread tensioner. Before I got to the thread tensioner, things weren't looking good. Stitches were skipping, the needle was jamming, thread was bunching up under the fabric and getting stuck in the bobbin case. It was a mess.
Someone had (as I later discovered) assembled it all wrong. I've also taken some strain tension out of the motors drive belt. That was under insane tension.
She's now working perfectly. Stitches are lovely  :D although I think the foot pressure may need tweaking slightly...some rippling on the bottom of the fabric.
I'm very pleased

@Bill don't get hung up on singer attachments.  EBay have a YS zigzagger for 30 with a set of cams
Yarn down:  1000g
Fabric down:  29m

Another thought.
Sawdust.   Perhaps machine was struggling after standing for years.  Someone who doesn't understand machines (wrongly assembled) puts in lots of grease above the needle (did you say CLEAN  grease?) . Sawdust where the feed dogs seemed to struggle and tightens the belt to an inch of its life, hoping to give it more punch power.
Have I got a nasty suspicious mind?
Well rescued

Well done!  How annoying that Someone had assembled it wrong...

Nothing like tinkering with an old machine!  Well done @Bill
I have learnt by my mistakes: Sewing machines now are Bernina 720, Bernina 1008, Bernina 801 from 1981, Brother overlocker, ancient but works well

I've actually swapped the cabinets and machines around. The 201ks cabinet amplified the noise it made and was impossible to fit the motors pedal into so I could use it. The 201knis now in the 66ks cabinet and vice versa. It's worked out nicely.
I spent yesterday playing with the zig zag and buttonhole attachments. It's ingenious how well these things work  :D

Ruby zigzagger is one of the best you can get and works on a 201 a dream.

I learned to sew on my mom's. Have it in my shop today and is my Jean hammer.
