Please don't be put off by the rules, @deetee , it's just to stop spammers really.  I'm sure nobody meant it to sound like they were telling you off

Yes, abiding by Important Rules is a definitely a Brit thing, no-one much cares for rules over here I’ve learnt. 😂
Don’t let it put you off posting otherwise it gets very quiet on here.

On the other hand, the rules were carefully considered and decided upon for very good reasons. It's part of what makes this forum such a nice place. Whatever people's intentions might be, if we all respect the rules and stick by them it will continue to be a nice place and distinct from other places you might find online. We very much hope that this will encourage new members - and old - to stay with us. Friends in our sewing rooms.

This particular rule about URLs does seem to catch out new members who may be keen to participate from the start.

Is there a standard way for moderators to deal with such errant posts? Some just have the URLs removed which makes any further “conversation” difficult whereas others have been edited so that enough information remains.

All new members are asked to read and agree to the conditions of the Membership agreement when they join. It should, therefore, be fresh in their minds when they make their first post. The standard "procedure" is for moderators to keep an eye, as far as possible, on ALL posts -out of interest in the first place of course - but also to make sure that the conditions we all agreed to are complied with. It can happen though that another member spots a non-compliance before we do - as in this case - and reports it. Either way,  it's in all our interests.
