The hand-typed way is 100% smartphone friendly. The way shown using the link button (in the video) may not work on some devices. But the way I showed with the BBC link will 100% work.

The next exercise is to insert a picture. Extra points will be awarded for size - not too small or too large.

Ah if you mean an inline pic I've already tried that one and couldn't get it to work on my phone.
Maybe I should do the same and try it on my laptop first. It was only by doing that of how I managed this in the end

I don't bother with 'attachments', but prefer to just insert an image using the picture tool icon.

A picture link ends with a .jpg, .png or .gif extension, for instance
https://d36ic34lpog4od.cloudfront.net/Sewing-Patterns/Cashmerette/Upton/upton8.jpg
and when using the 'insert image', becomes
It's a good idea to find a medium size picture to begin with, although I do use a third party site to resize.

No. You have to upload the picture to a photo editing site so that you can create a link that ends in .jpg. I use
Lunapic
and import images from my computer. Try
Imgur
for uploading from your mobile. Bizarrely, you have to select 'Documents' when you click on 'Browse' and then look in either 'Images' or 'Gallery' to find the picture you want.
