@doesntworkonwood something else to consider is how you are going to baste your quilt and how you intend it to be used. As @Iminei mentioned you can save a good bit of dosh by buying your own "ducks-behind-sofa" but you need to be very sure it will suit your needs. Alas, I have found my roll of 60/40 wool/poly not as warm as I had thought it would be and it also does not stick very well when I use 505 spray so I have to use pins  or thread baste  :'(.   Unfortunately, by my calculations I have enough batting hiding behind my sofa to make approximately 3,000,000 more quilts  :'( 0_0 0_0

My tip....try  quite a few different types with small projects, make notes and don't assume that all battings of the same "type" but of different BRANDS are the same. Try them all.
Juki TL2010Q, Juki DX7,  Singers: 1917 27K treadle (aka Gertie), 1957 99k (aka Vincent), 1951 99k knee lever (aka Shirley), 1950 99k handcrank (aka Alice), 1927 28K (aka Dora), 1947 201K treadle with motor conversion (aka Livvy)
....and the dusting and vacuming can wait!

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you guys. I just started back at Uni, so I haven't had the time to reply.

Since I'm going for QAYG, I think I'm going to grab a metre or so of Hobbs 80/20 because that seems to be quite popular and widely available.

Good Choice ... Work out which way to cut the squares will glean you the most before you start.

We'll expect pics you know!

QAYG can be done one square at a time or a long strip at a time, depends on the tye of QAYG, but wadding can be joined and once inside a quilt no-one will ever know it's been joined.
