Hello I'm Suburban

Back in the 1800s at school, my sewing teacher said it was her ambition to teach me how to sew.  She didn't succeed, so please be patient with my stupid questions.  :\

Welcome here Suburban - it is a given hereabouts that there are no silly questions, definitely not so ask away.

Helloooo.
Thank goodness, another newbie that isn’t already an expert.  :D
Please ask lots of daft questions otherwise, I’ll have to do it instead.  >:)

What sort of things interest you sewing-wise?

I’m trying to make a Mug Rug presently, but it’s looking decidedly naff, especially on the back. It’s a mish mash of things I’ve seen on Pinterest so I’m making up the design. Unfortunately, I sew a bit then look at it and change my mind.  :o
I wish I could find some good tutorials that really cover the basics rather than assuming you know it already. I had to google ‘fussy cutting’ because it wasn’t obvious to me and sounded a bit bonkers.  :S

Welcome, Suburban.

I was told many, many years ago that the only stupid/silly/daft question is the one you don't ask.

Welcome to TSP and please ask all the questions you want to.  The only stupid questions are those that are not asked.  If you are wanting to know something you can be sure that someone else also wants to know too.
Brenda.  My machines are: Caroline a Singer 201K-3 born 1940, Thirza a Featherweight 221K born 1949, Azilia a Singer 201K born 1957 and Vera, a Husqvarna 350 SewEasy about 20 years old. Also Bernina 1150 overlocker and Elna 444 Coverstitcher.

Hi and welcome.
You can ask away and you will always get a reply. Perhaps I might be able to assist you one day as this is all new to me too :)

Welcome @suburban, at school I DETESTED sewing and my teacher just left me alone and helped all the good girls who did want to learn. Roll on a few (!) years and here I am in love with the whole sewing thing  :loveit:

Thank you for all the welcomes.  :toast: I didn't expect so many replies, so apologies in advance if I don't thank you individually!  snoozi - "at school I DETESTED sewing" My first sewing teacher at secondary school was just intimidating.  I was glad when a classmate threw pins in her cup of tea when she'd left the room for five minutes.  I can't remember what happened to her, but I'm not a natural "crafty" type and her sterness looking over my shoulder just made me even more nervous.  God bless "youtube" and places like this.  ragtimedoll - "Perhaps I might be able to assist you" - I'm sure you will.

WildAtlanticWay - "I’m trying to make a Mug Rug"  I had to do a google image search.  There's one night time scene with with Two Owls that is very fetching.  "Pinterest"  -  Tell me about it.  I see some lovely stuff then realise how talented everyone else is.  Then I get angry with them for being gifted.  I'm trying to be less bitter and twisted...

Hi Suburban - welcome to TSP. I loved your initial posting - if you were at school in the 1800's you must be our oldest member!  :) :) :)

Seriously though, I hated sewing at school too (in the 1960's) but love it now, and although I've been sewing for years I still enjoy watching YouTube videos when the maker really knows what they're doing. :D
