@Sonatine  Don't be put off. Manuela said that would be fine for the contest.

@UttaRetch no worries, it's easily done with things written online!

@Manuela I updated the entry with Nellie wearing only the blouse. When worn together it does look like a dress.

Great @Ann, now I see that’s a shirt. We have the first entry for the contest.

Now that I’ve finished my coat, I’m thinking about the shirt for this contest. I’m going to try this https://www.simplicity.com/simplicity-storefront-catalog/patterns/women/dresses/simplicity-sewing-pattern-s8830-mimi-g-missesmiss-petite-shirtdress/

The fabric chosen for the shirt is the Atelier Brunette viscose in dark green

I have a pattern and some fabric. My pattern is for a button front dress but as it has no waist seam I think it would shorten easily enough to a shirt.
I then have some cotton fabric with musical notes on it (black with white notes), which would be fun for our choir party on Monday night.
I don't normally sew shirts, but since RTW doesn't usually fit well it seems worth making the effort.

Best part of contests for me is giving me a deadline.  I need to make shirts. I have fabric(s) and pattern(s).  First up is a red patterned viscose (I think).
I wanted to use Simplicity 9618 (2001) with B,C,D cup pieces.  Must have borrowed the D cup front to help out another pattern and being a Messy Person, have forgotten to put it back in the envelope. As a penance, I have to redraw it extrapolating from the B and C pieces.  Hopefully drawn and cut out tomorrow.
Oops, just read some reviews. Measurements are finished size, not body size, forgotten that too. Time for a little resizing overall. Snug sleeves too. Well, it was a long time ago.

@toileandtrouble hope your project goes well.

Today I traced off the pattern pieces, redrew the hem, cut out, rethreaded the machines back to black and started sewing.
I now need to sew the separate components together and do buttonholes and buttons and I shall have a shirt.

The shirt I was planning is on hold as I don’t have enough fabric for the shirt I wanted to cut out, and have ordered another metre which won’t be here till Wednesday or Thursday. 😒 So back to shopping the stash for something else.

Exactly the same for me.  It’s helping me decide what to make next.

I’ve decided to use this fabric now - another viscose I’ve had sitting in the stash for a while. At least I won’t have trouble finding something to wear with it there are a number of colour options I can choose from!

SewRuthieSew' Entry

I wasn't sure to start with if I were going to enter, then several things came together.
- choir were having social event
- Prima magazine arrived and had a shirt dress pattern in it
- I came across some fabric I had bought with musical notes on it.

End result was a musical shirt!

Here's the finished shirt, looks at a distance like it might be a paisley or floral design.

But get up close and you can see the musical notes.

I'm pleased with the collar and silver stylised rose buttons.

Here's the cuff. I cut it extra wide and put 2 buttonholes in the cuff, then folded it back and used only one button through both buttonholes (sort of gives a cufflink effect).

Here's the pattern from March 2020 Prima Magazine. I measured a RTW shirt and cut a curved hem.

I am thrilled with my shirt and its perfect for the event.

I like that shirt @SewRuthieSews and I like that you use some Prima patterns. I used to love them and had quite a collection, but it was lost in a house move.  Seeing all the clothes you make using them is pressing me to start a subscription again.  :o  ;)
Willing but not always able :)

Progress on my shirt - the breast pocket design is what drew me to this pattern. But I hadn’t taken the fabric into account, the pockets are totally lost on this! So I decided not to bother with the flaps, same for the epaulets!
