Embroidery and Embellishment / Hare cushions
« on: December 28, 2020, 22:41:21 PM »
I've done very little sewing over the past few months but did make a couple of cushions for a friend who vintage Alvis Car has a Standing Hare Mascot.   [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
Couldn't find one standing but found this lovely design of a head.

Vintage Machines / Re: Old school topstitching
« on: October 02, 2020, 22:37:07 PM »
The 2 outer rows look the best. My Featherweight started off by itself and went flat out with no one near it. Very strange experience, hubby took capacitor out and works like a dream now.

The stitch count is fairly low. And the 12 X 5 hoop is the repositional hoop for doing split designs.

Current Projects / Painted Horse Panel
« on: June 22, 2020, 16:38:22 PM »
Just finished binding Painted Horse quilt I made for my daughter. It took a bit of head scratching on my part to decide how to do the borders around it as I quilted the panel first. But got there in the end.  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

In the wardrobe / I've made a Hoodie and it fits.

I bought some knitted fabric a long time ago with a pile back on the spur of the moment to make a Hoodie. I used the free hoodie pattern from sew easy and finished it yesterday.   [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Embroidery Machines / Re: Innovis NV1250
« on: January 14, 2020, 23:34:31 PM »
I started with a 1250 which my daughter now uses as I upgraded it only takes a tiny nick in the bobbin case for them to not stitch properly. I've got to replace the bobbin case on my XV as I must have damaged it when I broke a needle before Christmas.  GUR sewing did have bobbin cases on offer when I looked the other day.  Your a lot braver than me taking all the covers off your machine.

As the others have said make sure you get a machine that will take a usb and at least a 5 X 7 in design area. If you have any dealers local to you it would be worth paying them a visit and ask for a demo and advice on their machines.   They should also offer surport and lesson on how to use it to get you started.  My local dealer has demo day on the last Sunday of the month that anyone who has bought an embroidery machine from them can go to where they show you different features on the machines to get you using them.

That's lovely a good idea to use the net for a bit of extra support.

Ohsosimple I havent had any problems with filmoplast gumming up my machines but it is not something I use very often as I tend to use no show mesh type and float most things. Think its one of those things that once you find one that works for you, you tend to keep on using it. I've got a drawer full of different ones but always tend to use the same one all the time.

Cardboard side bobbins are for multineedle  machines.  The 80 weight cutaway is one you would use for very dense designs. Just try them out and see which you like the best and find works best for you. 20 micron is topping and the 30 you can hoop but if you want to do freestanding lace you would need either the fabric type solvy or 76 micron /ultra solvy.  It's size A bobbins you want.  I must admit that I tend to use florani no show mesh, polymesh  or soft and stronge most of the time as I like it.  My daughter who has my old machine likes filmoplast sticky stabaliser.

You don't need to hoop the washable topping you can just lay it on the top and hold it in place. Make sure you are using the very thin one feels like cling film.  When you've finished pull off all you can and  just go gently over what's left with damp cotton bud.  You can use  clear vynyl as stabaliser for coasters then gentle tear it off when you've finished and it will not show.
