@Ploshkin As you thought, they were going to close a few years ago, but they just didn't, and after a while the owner said that when it got to the date of closure she just couldn't bear to do it - so she didn't!

All three places apparently don't open at all on Saturdays, which I find very strange - I suppose it means their customer base is either very local or retired.

:boohoo:  Wah!  We had a nice time planned in Lampeter - Calico Kate's, Welsh Quilt Centre and the Town Hall Deli for lunch.  We got there at 1pm and discovered that... Lampeter was closed!!!  All three, not open on Saturday.

Our 4 year old goddaughter came home from school today with a laminated card that says 'Draig Yr Wythnos' followed by her name.  This means 'Dragon of the Week', but neither she nor her parents know why she was given it!     I hope she hasn't been breathing fire...

@Iminei Who wants bras when you could spend your money on fabric...?

@Catllar My original engagement ring was made from a cable tie.  Mr Acorn made it for me while he waited for his student grant to arrive so he could buy me a real one.  I still have it with my other rings in my jewellery box.

Hmm.  I suppose I'd probably better do something with all my Welsh blanket offcuts before I branch out into Harris Tweed.     And I'm going to the Welsh Quilt Centre tomorrow too... I think you had a point, leaving it there!

... I was very saintly today and left the Harris Tweed pack on the shelf for someone else to enjoy.

Where????  :scream:  How long will it take me to get there?!??

I've been awake since 4am, and I didn't go to sleep until 12.15...  :boohoo:

I was supposed to be wallpapering today, but I don't have much to spare in case of mistakes, so unless I wake up properly later I think it will have to wait.  In the vanishingly unlikely event that the carpet people want to come on Monday I will just have to do it on Sunday, otherwise Monday will do.

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Re: Applique Paper...

I think I will.  Somewhere I have a Christmas applique kit which has small pieces that I just can't do neatly by any other method, so I will have a go with that.   It arrived this morning.  It feels like thick interfacing - I may cut off a very small piece and soak it in a saucer to see what remains.

The packet suggests using it for EPP, so there can't be much residue.  I do like that idea - iron on and leave in.

We are in almost the same situation as you @Acorn with the M&S vouchers but they are going down quickly! You do know that the older ones have a monetary value and if your drink is less than £2.75 the rest comes off your bill for anything else  ;). The latest ones just say 'hot drink'.

@Helen M  Yes!  Some of ours need to be used by the end of November - the ones that are just a drink - and the older ones by the end of the year (that may sound stupid to anyone else, but Helen will know what I mean!) so we are aware that if there is any chance of not using them all, it should be the November ones that we don't use.

Three more rainbows since I last posted!  I snatched the only dry 3 minutes to fill the bird feeders and read the electricity meters, and still got rained on before I made it back inside.

I'm going to meet my boyfriend* for lunch in M&S Cafe today.  We have 22 M&S free hot drink vouchers that have to be used before the end of the year.

It is pouring with rain here, although the wind that was originally forecast to be in the 40s, then downgraded to the 20s, turns out to be around 10mph, which is good.  Like @Ploshkin we had a few strong gusts at 2.30am, and have also had lots of rainbows although only one this morning before the heavens opened.  As soon as the rain eases I must fill the bird feeders - I feel guilty when I don't fill them because the weather is bad - the birds need feeding even more in bad weather.

*Never fear, it is Mr Acorn.

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Re: Applique Paper...

I've ordered some from Amazon - not Apliquick.

As far as I can tell it's paper that is fusible on one side.  You can print onto it with an inkjet printer, or trace your pattern onto it, and you iron it onto the applique fabric.  The paper is stiff enough to turn your fabric under as you stitch it down.  If you want to stick the applique to the main fabric you need to use a glue pen.  Then the paper washes away, but it does leave some fibres - but no more than you would have with fine interfacing.  I hope.
