:S   Should we be concerned ????

Maybe he’s a budding obstetric surgeon !  :D

Oh, I didn’t know such things existed! I must investigate , as new blades are so expensive. I tend to work on with blunt blades until they just annoy me too much!

Beautiful @RJR_38 I love the red tweed.  <3

I was asked by a friend to make 2 ‘I Spy’ name cushions for babies born in Dec and Jan, so I made these this weekend. I suppose they’ll count if I don’t get my quilt finished. One is being posted to USA, so it doesn’t have a cushion pad. I was trying a rainbow layout, so made the name label smaller than usual to incorporate part of the coloured blocks that formed the pattern. Not sure it’s a total success ><
If any of you in USA  know a baby Kenji , don’t spoil the surprise! ;)
The other one was a nightmare. I’d just sewn the back on, zigzagged all the way round the inside and then topstitched , when I noticed a small scissor nick at the top of the back. So, much unpicking later, I had to cut out the offending piece and add a different panel of sheep fabric to the back!

Congratulations @Sakar ! Is little Wolf excited to be a big brother?

A Good Yarn / Re: More socks
« on: January 13, 2021, 16:10:38 PM »
@BrendaP - thanks for the sock pattern. I’ve been knitting the same basic pattern for the last few years, but yours looks good. I like the stretchiness and the different toe, so I’ll give it a try. Knitting stops me dozing off in front of the tv in these never ending lockdown evenings! I love hand knitted socks- so comfy and cosy in the winter: you can’t beat them!  :D

Good sewing weather today, so got the blocks sewn together....Just have to decide on a 2-3 “ border to make it roughly 40” square. :D

Here’s a picture of progress so far. It’s a very easy design, so I hope it’ll come together quickly.   [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

A quiet day today and still a lot of snow and ice around, so decided to start on a scrappy baby quilt, using this design found online.  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
The family it’s for are interested in marine conservation, so I’m putting in as many fabrics as I have with sea creatures, but also  lots of other things that will be of interest to a child. I do like to make up an ‘I spy’ list once I’ve finished a scrappy quilt, then I print the list out and give it with the quilt for future games when the child is older. I’ll post some photos of its progress but can’t promise to finish this month.

Fun with Fabric / Re: Fabric for PJs

@Iminei - have you looked at Etsy for brushed cotton? I buy it for making burp cloths and often find it difficult to source: so often out of stock on sites. Had a quick look at Etsy and there are some more grown up ones- black and white giraffes?

Technical Help / Re: Sewing Rates

My daughter has her own dog grooming business- think she’d agree with those rates too!

I am considering this, as I offered to make a play quilt for a friends grandchild expected in April. However, I am busy helping with child care after my daughter’s new arrival in Dec. It may be that January is not the best timing for me, but I will keep it in mind if I find the time. :D

Block of the Month 2020 / Re: Novembers BOM
« on: December 31, 2020, 09:30:45 AM »
@WendyW , your quilt is beautiful and where is the amateurish quilting? The close ups look great to me. You gave yourself an extra problem trying to arrange front and back, but the resulting pattern and colours are lovely.  :loveit:

Just lovely @Efemera . Do you have changing season mini quilts on your wall? That’s a nice idea.

Moon is definitely Coats. I worked in their Glasgow warehouse eons ago when I was a student , so had a bit of ( probably misplaced) loyalty to the company and thought Coats thread would be good. I haven’t found it fluffy, but maybe I’m just used to it. It is certainly much less expensive than many threads.
