Technical Help / Re: Jetted Welt Pocket with Flap...

Another fan of wash away tape.  It will enable you to check positioning before committing to sewing.
Zips are always done with the tape here.  Pins distort too much for my liking.

@b15erk its often a good idea to take photos as you go.  Write notes and scribble all over the sample too!   So handy.   ;)

That’s very neat @b15erk.  I’m assuming you keep your samples for future reference?
I usually use Claire Shaeffer's method for bound buttonholes and welt pockets.  It’s good to try different methods to get the one that suits you best.

I saw this & I thought you may be interested! / Re: What is Tencel

Thanks for that @sewmuchmore.  I have to say I read  about it some time ago as someone asked me about it.  But nice to refresh my knowledge.  Not seen a lot of it for sale but would be interested.

Sewing Spaces and Furniture / Re: Sewing chair

@HenriettaMaria wow that was very interesting.  I had no idea there were different sorts of castors.  Could explain why my chair scoots along a bit too quickly.  Mine is quite old so maybe these sort of things weren’t available when we bought ours.

Great in a power cut!   And in these times of huge electric bills it’s a bit of a bonus even if it doesn’t save too much.   Every little helps as Tesco says.

In the wardrobe / Re: Alter a pattern or a toile?
« on: May 04, 2022, 11:45:13 AM »
Nice to see you back @Puzzler
Have you got a self drafted block or any pattern that fits you reasonably well?   If so you can use that as a starting block for other patterns.  I find I get a much better result that way.
Is there anyone who could help fit?   Can you put photos up here for some help?
Trying to think of ways round it.

Sewing Machines / Re: getting a flat zigzag stitch in thin fabric?
« on: May 04, 2022, 09:14:36 AM »
I always suggest the triple zig zag stitch as it does lay flatter.
You could always use some sort of tear away embroidery stabiliser or wash away which would help.  But could be a bit pricy just for this.  Alternative is to try different types of seams

If using a commercial pattern I do my usual adjustments to the pattern to start with.  Then I do a toile and alter that.  I normally use the toile as a pattern.  But have been known to alter the pattern as well.  Me made patterns I can normally just make a new style from and be fairly confident about fit.  I have so many alterations that commercial patterns usually give a headache

I iron our bedding too as we only have cotton and it looks a mess otherwise.  Actually DH makes a better job of it than me!   But he doesn’t seem to mind wasting time.
