Tech Know How / Re: No Unread Topics

I would.....if I knew what clearing the cache meant (I take it's not the same as clearing the cash  :P).  Can't check on another device at the moment as my laptop is poorly and is going to the PC Doctor tonight.

That's how I browse the forum via the unreads, too.

Tech Know How / No Unread Topics

I've noticed that for about a week or so now when I click on "Recent Unread Topics", I get the message that there are no new topics, yet if I go into the individual forum pages, there are new posts that I've not seen.  Am I being daft?  Is there something I am missing?

Patterns Discussion / Re: Help me solve this fitting issue...
« on: April 26, 2017, 08:22:49 AM »
I'm another that has this problem with most tops/dress patterns, even on the Big 4.  I have to have it taken in at the upper back, not a problem if there is no collar, but tricky when there is (I now always toile a top of any new pattern)  I now go down  size (to a 14) and do an FBA, problem solved :-D

No unfortunately I can't, sorry.  The back cushions are zipped onto the back (no problem with them) but the seat cushions are non-removable (which I absolutely detest as there is no easy means of cleaning between them and it all gets pretty yucky!)  Any picture I take will just look like seat cushions on a sofa!

The council had proposed a two hour limit, but I think it was defeated as nothing has changed.  :(

Blimey, our council seems to have free reign to do what it wants.  About 4 years or so ago, they put up the parking charges something like 150%, no consultation, it was just done and we have hoards of traffic wardens regularly checking all the restricted parking zones - it is a cash generator!

If it isn't a baggy roomy style then yes.  I don't conform to the standard sizes so need to make alterations to get a good fit.

Right, I'm committing this project to here, which means I have to get it done!

I started this at least a year ago and bought the fabric at least a year before that (a yummy patterned Art Gallery cotton; it's a pattern that kind of reminds me of a mandala, on a mustard background with coral, purpley-brown and white pattern and is far nicer than the hideous description I have just given lol).  I have done the initial adjustments (FBA and lengthening the bodice) and made a first toile.  I have some adjustments to do but being that it was toiled so long ago, I'm kind of guessing at what they should be (note to self write better notes on my toiles!).  I am determined to get this done as my summer wardrobe is sadly lacking!  So far it seems to have gone together quite well, especially as it is a freebie, except that my darts aren't straight and I can't work out why (and I can't find my pattern cutting book either - new cupboard is on my wish list!)

Will report back in due course!

Fun with Fabric / Yellow dots on black
« on: April 11, 2017, 12:35:02 PM »
Ok, your challenge, should you choose to accept, is to find me the above fabric, preferably in cotton and small dots, not big ones.  Is that pernickety enough for a challenge?

I have some lovely floral fabric (black background, kind of ditzy floral print in yellow and red, but the yellow is the more dominant colour, to me) which will not be quite enough for a top so I need to supplement it with another fabric and thought it might look nice with a black with yellow polka dots.  But I can't find any.  Has anyone seen any one their travels?

Thanks,  Missie

House Beautiful / Sofa re-upholster

I have a leather sofa that has seen better days.  The sofa covers are falling apart, literally.  There are holes in the leather, the seams are ripping.  I can't afford a new sofa and as the frame itself is good (and I still like the sofa), I want to recover it.  The trouble is, the cushions are fixed to the frame so I don't even know how to go about doing this.  Can anyone recommend a good book, or website to enable me to do this........and I have to do this as my in-laws have offered me their sofa as mine is "falling apart".

Thanks.

And how many of you still have a supply of your children's name tapes in your tins??  I can't just throw them away...

I have a bit of catching up to do, but yes I still have name tapes for my eldest who is 20 this year (*and I'm whispering that really cos I am far too young to have a 20 year old, aren't I?  :D )

I have 2 - one for coloured buttons and one for white buttons, both pinched from my mother.  I have some real old buttons in there and have used some of them.  I loved rummaging through the button box when I was little.  My kids never found the joy in that though  ><
