I don't suppose there are big numbers employed in Stockport but sad that anyone loses their job wherever it is. Digging round t'interweb I see that when the new parent company bought the McCall pattern company a couple of years back turnover from MCalls was over $30 million globally per annum. Patterns are big business!

Yes I think I saw something about the takeover a while back. It means that the Vogue/Butterick etc group pretty well has a monopoly on patterns apart from the indies.
Not good news about job losses in Stockport. Stockport has a nice historic market and Underbank area but, like so many, its town centre is dying on its feet. It lost its M&S recently and the new cinema building won an award for being the ugliest new building in Britain. There's an award you wouldn't want to win. Poor old Stockie!

I had to tip out my button box today to find some for my current proiect - shirt made from varuna wool and tartan silk dupion. Gosh I found loads I had forgotten about. Most come from a local charity shop where the habrdashery lady thoughtfully sews sets of buttons onto cards. She also puts the date on the back so it's interesting to see how long I've had some of them. About 6 years since you ask- not long in Tamny stash world!

Yes I wonder at some of the fabrics they use. The Zandra Rhodes looks like lovely and expensive silk - very Zandra - but one of the views of the Marcy Tilton top seems to be made from a bit of old ripstop bri-nylon. It makes such a difference. I'm just finishing off a Tilton top for the tartan sewalong but I can't find any reviews of it anywhere. I'm sure it's because the pattern envelope shows it made up in a strange plasticky pleather like fabric.

The new winter Vogue patterns are now available on the US website here .
These won't be available in the UK for a few weeks yet.
There are a number of party frocks of course but I quite like the Marcy Tilton coat/ top V9352 although I don't think the fabrics they have used set it off to best advantage. Also the Zandra Rhodes top is nice if the fabric is like the one in the photo (but I don't like the hang bits - what are they about?!?) V1609

The Bellville Sassoon Dress is lovely if you are thin! V1600
