Alterations Advice Please / Sleeves on suede jacket alteration

Hi. Does anyone have any tips for altering the sleeves on a suede jacket?
They just need to be shorter and there are no fancy buckles or top stitching. I’m presuming I just need to be careful unpicking and cutting it and maybe using a specialised needle? Just a bit scared to do it.
