Patterns Discussion / Burda 6972
« on: July 29, 2019, 09:48:19 AM »
I've almost finished this UFO, which I'm reasonably pleased with.
https://jaycotts.co.uk/products/bd6972#.XT6v4XmotPY

However, the front closure is a little awkward because its show a little too much cleavage for my liking but I think I can do a work around by possibly carefully meeting the centre opening and sew some stretch lace on the inside to hold the edges together which would make it easier to pull on and off (its an overhead dress with no side or back opening).

My main problem now is that I did not narrow the shoulders when I cut it out so the shoulder seam is 2 cms too long and the sleeve head falls over to my upper arm.
Can I remove the sleeve head, and reposition it to the shoulder seam at the top by 2 cms (leaving the sleeve head seam as usual 1.5cm) and "grade" the seam around the front and back down to normal 1.5 though to the armpit?
(I don't know if I've explained that clearly or not.)
Alternative is I can put 2 cm dart in the middle of the shoulder seams on front and back pieces which would lift the sleeve head?

Any ideas, anyone?

Sewing Machines / PFAFF 1229 syncotronic 1229
« on: July 16, 2019, 17:25:34 PM »
Does anyone know why the power button on this machine wouldn't stay on?
If I keep it depressed with my finger the power and light go on and the needle moves up and down and the feed dogs rotate so I think the machine works, but can't understand why the button won't stay down.

I've also never come across the threading system before and not sure I'm threading it correctly, and whoever wrote the instruction book for this machine is a sadist!!!

If any TSP'er is familiar with this machine or can point me in the direction of any knowledge, I'd be very grateful.

I love Pfaff's and don't want to give up on this one without a fight!

Patterns Discussion / Clothkits - kits (changing bag and mat)
« on: June 25, 2019, 10:34:03 AM »
(Hope this is the right place to post).
I made this Clothkit up and attach pics of the end result.
I don't like their instructions and would, on reflection, have been better off with using something from the Big4 whose instructions and diagrams are clearer.
The end result looked better in real life...
(However, why I bothered to make something rather than buy something, I don't know - as the recipient gave it a quick look at the baby shower and then dismissed it....)

Hi,
About 4 yds of very pretty cotton sateen fabric fell into my shopping bag for £4.99 for the price  (bargain, bargain, bargain) :D :D from an Oxfam shop on Saturday.
Any suggestions for a pattern to use this fabric?  (Its a navy background with a pink/turquoise/cream splash (small scale) design.)

Sewing Machines / Issue with brother innovis cs8080
« on: June 14, 2019, 19:04:49 PM »
I'm struggling with some very faulty machining which  is caused by the bobbin (I.e., it's the underside). The underside of the stitching is about 0.3 cm loose from the needle side.
Would anyone know what might be causing this?
I'll try and post a photo later.

I found this on ebay and thought it might be of interest to someone who wants to take a risk.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/223546188190?ul_noapp=true
(Its a relisted item, as it didn't sell at the asking bid of £36.99).

I did contact the seller and asked if it was working and whether it could be packed for courier collection.
I got an answer saying he would plug it in and check (haven't heard back yet).
He did say it could be packed.
I checked on Pfaff's website and the instruction book can be downloaded for free.

I have no connection with the seller or the item.  I just thought it might be of interest to someone who wants an overlocker without making a big investment.
(Any potential buyer should make their own enquiries directly with the seller.)

I'm trying to track down a manual for this machine, without success.
I think its an obsolete machine but I can't find a singer website which shows that model.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance,

The Haberdashery / Emery Filled Large Pin Cushion
« on: May 27, 2019, 14:56:45 PM »
Does anyone know a supplier for Emery filled pin cushions (it keeps the pins sharp).
I've looked on Amazon and Minerva, but can't easily identify one.
I wondered if anyone knows a supplier (maker)?
Thanks in advance

this is on at £31 for 4.5 metres - is that a good buy?  Could this be used to make a summer dress?

Since posting, I've checked and its sold out anyway

Patterns Discussion / FBA - Yet again
« on: May 10, 2019, 10:33:49 AM »
On the subject of UFO's, I have a "learning" UFO to tackle. :'(
Learning how to do an FBA - I have such a MENTAL BLOCK about this, I'm absolutely sure I can't do it (it intimidates me as much as  algebra lessons did at school!)
I know there's been a lot of posts on this subject and I wondered if anyone can recommend an on-line course that takes you through the process by way of lessons e.g., FBA for Dummies.
(I have the Full Busted DVD but I don't find that very easy to follow.)
I did ask at Merchant and Mills workshop but they don't do customised classes. :'(
Thanks for any suggestions.

Overlockers & Coverstitchers / Janome 2000 Air Thread overlocker
« on: May 09, 2019, 12:47:22 PM »
This is on offer at £749 (I've been thinking of buying one for ages) and they'll do me a Part-Ex on the Brother Innovis 27SE I'm looking to sell.

Is this a no-brainer deal @ £629?

(I spend small amounts of money pretty easily, but when it comes to larger amounts - I panic!)
Surely, I tell myself, the hours I will no longer spend threading my old ELNA 744 will be worth the money?

I've reduced the asking price to £90 ono plus postage...

This machine is in VGC and only about a year old.
I've got my eye on yet another machine to add to my collection that I'd like to buy but need to see if I can sell this one first.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Brother-Innov-Is-NV27SE/dp/B01LZ7DKF4/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?crid=2ZF2DV2WP64N3&keywords=brother+innovis+27&qid=1557396457&s=gateway&sprefix=brother+innovis+27%2Caps%2C143&sr=8-1-fkmr0

I have the original box, instruction manual and all the accessories.  Its virtually like new.
