Technical Help / Cutting upholstery foam
« on: March 22, 2022, 15:10:32 PM »
My friends would like me to make them a front sun pad for their boat.

I haven’t found anywhere in the region of Spain I live in that I can buy custom cut foam. I can order square/rectangular foam and thought I would shape it myself.

That’s the big problem I have  what tools do I need. Looking online some say specialist foam cutter, others say electric knife and there was even a suggestion to use a jigsaw!!!

I feel sure there is someone on this site who has experience and can offer sound advice and guidance - PLEASE

Skateboarder I’m afraid - nothing as glamorous as your daughter and he’d not appreciate me trying to make him something to wear

My sister-in-law and husband bought a Finca (basic country house) in Spain and inherited a lot of furniture. There were two outdoor wicker type sofas which, though fairly sturdy, needed repainting, minor repairs and new seat cushions covers.

That’s where I came in and stupidly volunteered to make the covers.  We went and chose suitable outdoor fabric for the seat cushions and found a large foam seat/mattress on my brother-in-law’s boat to fashion a back for the larger of the two sofas.  After searching through a stack of furniture destined for the tip we managed to find two foam seat cushion that I cobbled together with spray contact adhesive to form a back for the smaller sofa.

Then came the very messy job of attaching wadding (I think

Unfinished Fabric Object.

Thank you.... now I think I need to be honest with myself about the bits I’ve hidden in boxes, in the bottom of the wardrobe, under the bed ... or I can just carry on ignoring them

Access All Accessories / Re: Slipper Pattern and Hints
« on: January 02, 2020, 19:09:34 PM »
When I made something similar for a friend many years ago,  I  used non-slip  / gripper dots fabric for the soles. It was fine on carpet, but when she walked on a smooth surface, say in the kitchen, her feet moved and the slippers stayed where they were! :[  An accident waiting to happen.  :o

HTH,
Clare

Thank you for that Clare - I’ll try to find a none-slip fabric for the sole or maybe just go to the pile of fabric I have stashed away

Just wondering if anyone has made closed toe mule type slipper and could offer hints, especially any pitfalls they experienced.  I have found a free pattern on Covert Robin https://needleandladle.wordpress.com/2013/04/13/covert-robin-what-i-made-for-kat/
They do not have a stiff bottom, not sure if that is a pro or con.

Hi, I'm new... / Re: Hello to all

Just wanted to say thank you for all the lovely welcomes.

I have been cruising round the site - was a late night as I stayed up way past my bedtime reading some of the diaries.  So much to choose from, so many great ideas and brilliant photos.

It will be amazing to finish the home improvements and get on to the lovely sewing projects I have in mind.

Hi Skater's Mum
Welcome to TSP from me too. Don't be too surprised if you get asked about sewing skating dresses,  many of us knew a 'skatersmum' from a previous forum who makes skating costumes.

I hope you get lots of help and inspiration for your bags without too many suggestions for skating dresses.  ;) :D
Whoops - perhaps I should mention it’s skateboarding
