Current Projects / Last of the stash busters
« on: April 17, 2017, 17:50:08 PM »
I had several leftover 5" fabric squares. I decided to do something quick and easy with them, so they would be gone and I would be truly minimalist at last  :D
I have made the top but it is not sandwiched or quilted yet. I'm quite pleased with it as I couldn't think of any other quick way to use up the florals.

Today I went to Exeter, to the Spring Quilt Festival / Show.
I should have been warned when I got on the coach and found that there were only 18people going from the whole of mid and west Cornwall.
There were hardly any punters at Westpoint, and the number of exhibitors was well down too ( on last year and the year before ) The workshops only had one or 2 participants :(
Oh well, I thought, lets peruse the quilts.....
Now, they were wonderfully skillful ( QS is right, you can easily tell the ones which have been blocked ) and fulfilled their various briefs... but....most of them were not really my  :drink:
Lots of wholecloth quilts, Japanese Sashiko ones, and very modern, arty, appliqed quilts / wall hangings.
I know they are all valid forms of quilting, but I have come to the decision that it is the patchwork element I like, I like to see blocks :) The others, I see, as more, fabric / textile art.
One cheering thing was, there was quite a lot of hand quilting to see.
Don't think I'll go next year.....I might try to substitute the FOQ at the NEC?

What did you think Imi ?

I have almost used up my small but irritating stash, ( don't ask about the offcuts  :| )
My final project is a quilt which uses up my leftover Charm Squares and about 1m of white tone on tone fabric.
In order to make it large enough to be useful, I have had to dig up out and actually incorporate some squares ... featuring "The 's Colour"  I know, I can't believe it either  -<
However, it does at least put to rest the false rumour that I am profligate  :P and wasteful  :P and imprudent  :P
i'll probably hate it when it's finished and it'll be hidden away... but.... at least I will deserve a  for not binning fabric  :ninja:

I am a disgrace to womanhood, in that, I have never been able to multitask!!  :|
I have to complete on thing / job / task etc before embarking on the next.
Now......I really want to make this Quiltalongathon thingy but it spreads over time  >:) I have 2 other quilts to make ( one by the end of April and one by July ) plus the BOM!!!!!!!
Can I steel bring myself to do any of these projects simultaneously???
My mind is already reeling......where will I keep things so they're tidy, accessible and separate? How will I allocate time? Will I get mixed up? Can I cope????????
Answers pleeeaaase  :ninja:

I've nearly made it....... I have hardly any fabric left  A few leftovers from when I couldn't resist buying FQs, and a few surplus 5" squares from pre cuts and...... that's it
I'm planning on using up these squares of fabric to make lavender sachets ( as I found a tin of lavender I'd forgotten about  :| ) and will try out Iminei's block of the month and other new blocks with the FQs ( even if they're not quite what I'd choose to go together  >:) )
I will now only buy fabric for specific projects ( in, hopefully, the right amounts  0_0)
If I go to Exeter Quilt Show I will buy some fabric for a quilt I'm to make for a friend.
My only gripe is...... I'm not the world's best cutter - outer and I wish, when you buy fabric, they would cut it into the 1/4m that they price it at.Instead, they sell multiples in the total length ordered. I find lots of fabric to manoeuvre, cumbersome and would love them to give me an option when I order.
Still.....here's to a tidy, minimalist sewing room..........onward and upward  :flower:
