@Sewingsue I am on FB; I think the only group I've put up room pictures in is Sewing Room Ideas, though I might have in another group if someone else started the topic.

Based on past history, the tidy state may be temporary. I'm hopeful that actually having accessible storage space will make it easier to keep clean. I've told myself that this is IT. There will be no more future moves where I can hope for more space "next time". If I can't make it all fit, things are going out the door, not being held in reserve.

It IS big, and that's a blessing! But it wasn't the goal. We wanted one-story living downstairs for the long-term and put the extras upstairs. After we put in the upstairs requirements of guest room, bathroom, and grandkid play space, I got what was left over.

@HenriettaMaria LOL! In this little pocket of the state, Finnish is more likely than Norwegian, but I'm related to both, so either one is welcome! So far all the neighbors are married, but I'm sure eventually some bachelor will find his way to my door with his holey jeans. But since I'm married, sewing is the only service he'll get. :)

Last weekend my husband finished my new table. This one is about 6in lower than the old one, and much more comfortable to sew on. The old one got repainted and repurposed to a paper-crafting station.

I hosted a sewing service project for my church today, and got the room all cleaned up beforehand, so I took a picture to share. What you CAN'T see are the 6 tubs of fabric that DON'T fit on the shelves. My husband heard me tell my friends that I've sworn off buying "just for fun" fabrics until it all fits on that wall, and he asked for that in writing! (Don't worry, I won't commit myself in writing!) We had 11 ladies working in here today (including the rest of the space not in the picture) and it wasn't crowded at all.

I built all the storage on the back wall myself, gave my ironing boards a makeover, trimmed to size and mounted the doors on the front of my cutting table, applied the trim to the edges of both tables, and did all the painting. Next up is the Roman shades on the windows, and eventually closet doors/design wall over the middle part of the back wall, which will be a husband job.

For Sale, Wanted & Free to a good home / Re: For Sale - HUSBAND

This thread has been a fun read.

I'm keeping my model. Based on @Deafoldbat's description I apparently have a Mark 1. His DIY app works very well, though the procrastination app also works well, which is a bit of a nuisance. He's a hard worker and has made it possible for me to be a stay-at-home mom and wife. As a result his cooking and cleaning apps are totally nonfunctional. But, I've got my own non-functional apps, so I can't complain too hard.

I did make a good dent in my scrap pile, so I marked that off my board. I finished my drapes as far as a could without rods hung yet, but it was on Feb 2nd, so I couldn't cross it off.

I've got my fabric for my Roman shades prewashed, and a cleared-off cutting table to work on. Opened the old clothes bin again, and closed it up again, but in my defense I was in the process of cleaning my sewing room to host a group activity, and I didn't need to begin a mess when i was supposed to be cleaning. I need to go take a picture of my room while it's clean.

In the wardrobe / Re: What is your favorite thing you made in 2022?
« on: January 25, 2023, 20:03:17 PM »
This was a tough question for me. I feel like I've barely sewn anything over last year, though my photostream says otherwise. So much of what I have done has either been gifted or was utilitarian, not much to elicit feelings of favoritism. I guess I will choose the tartan cloak and hat for my granddaughter's doll. It was something that required me to reach into the depths of my skills and gave me a true sense of accomplishment.

I think the whole point of working by the numbers is the getting past the "don't wanna", but with your numbers coming up with 3 of the same thing in succession, I'd probably swap one or two of them for another square. It's intended to motivate, not discourage.

Thanks, @Pearl! I just came here to post the numbers.  I only just now got on the computer, at lunch time in the US, as I woke up only 30min before I had to leave the house today.  You guys have big head start on the day.

I have NOT completed my January projects yet. I've got one set of drapes, out of 3 sets, left to complete. And none are hemmed because my husband hasn't hung the rods yet. My other Jan. project was to work on cutting quilting scraps, and I still have a few days to get that done.

My February projects are the roman shades for my sewing room, and dealing with a bin of old clothes. When we cleaned out my in-laws house, I kept a bin of my MIL's clothing from the 60's with intent to salvage the fabrics (gorgeous fabrics, UGLY clothes!) I've opened it a few time but the smell makes me close it up again. I guess my first step should be to throw them all in the washer.

I'd join a mug rug swap, and I like to hear more about the block swap.

Sewing Machines / Re: Fancy sewing machine thoughts
« on: January 11, 2023, 23:34:56 PM »
@WendyW it sounds as if you might have the same machine as me.  I completely agree with everything you said.  Mine's a Pfaff Quilt Expression 4.2.

@Ploshkin So's mine! I previously had a Pfaff 1467 and I ADORED that machine! Finally wore it out and it retired to light duty at my daughter's house. The QE 4.2 is a prima donna, she wants to be pampered and is too fussy.

I've got one really fancy machine with all the bells and whistles, and it's my usual machine for all things. I've also got a basic serger and 3 vintage singers. The Singers are multi-purpose- heavy duty (my fancy machine is a wimp), more portable, back-up if the fancy one is in the shop, and soon to be for student use.

I rarely use most of the bells and whistles, but I DO use many of them, and depend heavily on a few, such as automatic foot lift and needle-down. There are some things it just does not do as well as previous machines- including an older, less fancy model of the same make.

Some operations are simply a bigger hassle on this machine due to a more "advanced" brain, programming the embroidery for letters/words being one of them. Most fancy stitches are worthless as anything other than decoration, and mostly they take so long I just don't bother. All they are is a selling point - "Has 3000 different stitches!!" It doesn't cost the company anything to cram more stitches into the memory. I really miss having immediate access to things like tension setting and presser foot pressure- it would be much simpler to deal with dials than with 10 layers of menus on a screen.

But, I absolutely LOVE the needle-down, and the hover and auto-lift foot, and the ADT, and the 11in throat for quilting. I just wish I could find them all on a simpler machine.

@WildAtlanticWay
I think the original video link got lost, can you share that again @WendyW ? Thanks

You're right! I didn't notice that. I'll go find it again and fix/repost it.

Well that was easy to find! Thank goodness for a YouTube "history" list. It's fixed in the original post, and here it is again just for simplicity.  WIPGO How-to

If anyone is interested, here's my card for this year. Created on Word, printed on cardstock, and Post-its cut to size. Only a few projects are UFOs, some are tasks on my to-do list such as shades and drapes for the new house, others I've been procrastinating on starting for years. The need to cut my scraps into pre-cuts is an on-going maintenance, and scrappy quilts for charity are also on-going.

The numbers for January are the answers to the following math problems. I've encoded them this way for this month only so you can get your boards ready before you see the numbers. Future numbers will be posted some time on the 25th of each month for the following month.

First number:  432/72 = ?
Second number   5x5-15= ?

*******

Thanks for posting it, Ruthie!

What is this WIPGO of which you speak and are at least 3 people wanting to do it?

It's a Bingo-style board of your own projects and UFOs, to be completed according to the numbers designated each month. I've contacted the specified people to ask about setting it up.

Note from the Sewalong admins (aka Ruthie). Wendy has reached out to us explaining this Sewalong and I'm happy for it to go ahead. However any questions on how it works will have to go to Wendy :-) as she knows how it works!

------------------------------

@Pearl mentioned something on a Darkside thread that I thought would be fun to run with for all of us. This is a "game" called WIPGO - Works In Progress binGO. This originated from a cross-stitcher and the on-line chatter for it seems to center around that craft. I thought it would be fun to get our own going that is sewing-centered.

This video explains it. She's pretty long-winded, and I easily got the gist of the concept while skipping through the video.

I'll be using the numbers that she posts for each month, and I'll pass them on here. There are two numbers each month- two tasks to complete. These are announced on the 25th of each month for the following month's projects.

To join us in our game:

1. Make up a list of 24 things you want to accomplish in your sewing room. These can be true WIPs (AKA UFOs), unstarted projects that you've been procrastinating, maintenance tasks for your space, practice time for a sewing skill, or simply items on your to-do list. You can break a large project into several chunks for separate boxes. Basically anything related to your sewing and sewing space. This is the only REQUIRED step for this thread. All following steps are for fun only.

2. Plug your list items into a 5x5 grid. You can put them in some kind of order, or scramble them up. Like in Bingo, the center space is "FREE"- don't put a task there.

3. Number the blocks 1-25. The source numbers them straight across the rows. You could mix them up if you like.

4. When you FINISH a task WITHIN it's designated month, you can mark it off your board. A task must be completed, not merely its number called, in order to mark it off. You can work on a project in advance of its month, but to be marked off, it must be completed before its designated month is over. When you complete an entire row, that's a BINGO. If you complete every task on your board before it's month is done, you will get a total of 12 BINGOs- 5 horizontal, 5 vertical, 2 diagonal- for the year. The ultimate goal is a "Blackout", every space marked off, and every task completed.

5.  If numbered straight across, we will all get a "Bingo" (a completed row) within the same month. If you mix up your numbers, your Bingo timing will differ from everyone else's. If you are working from a list only, no grid, then no BINGOs for you! Just the satisfaction of a job well done!

6. You can leave your board entirely visible with numbers written in the squares; you can slap a sticky note over each square to hide the task until its number is called; or you can get all fancy and crafty and make a cover sheet with little doors for each space.

7. Plan some rewards for yourself for whenever a BINGO is reached. A new sewing gadget, a pretty piece of fabric, that pattern you've been drooling over, or some non-sewing pleasure. You've worked hard to reach a goal and dispose of mental clutter (we all know those UFO are mental clutter!) You deserve to be rewarded for it.

8. When you've gotten a Bingo, come here and yell "BINGO!" We'll celebrate with you.
