re microfibres. Would it help to make a washing bag out of cotton sheeting or something similar to put the fleece in? Will theses fibres pass through close weave cotton?

I didn't know that fleece was dangerous to wildlife. I'm going to rethink how I wash my fleece jackets. These are incredibly useful as warmwear that doesn't matter too much (dog walking, gardening). Alternatively, perhaps felted wool could be used to make an equivalent but not destructive version?

I'm not criticising (glass houses and stones). Sometimes the only moment I can get to take a photo, due to weather and RL issues is when the project is crumpled, or the technique I'm waffling about is imperfectly carried out. I admire those very polished blogs, but when it's sewing or photographing, sewing gets the priority.

Sewing Spaces and Furniture / Re: Sewing Spaces
« on: April 12, 2017, 15:06:21 PM »
I've finally got my sewing space reorganised. As Morgan wrote, the biggest headache is fabric storage, and that isn't really resolved, but it's now well enough tucked away to be able to get to the necessary equipment without hassle. I don't have custom built units and tables, all is a bit make do and mend. I've grouped stuff according to activity, and included places to put things while they're waiting to be filed away in the right place, temporary holding areas, because I know I will never get to Datcat's level of perfection. So, there's a rack for downloads that haven't migrated to the proper place, a small box for patterns not filed, a dish for bits and bobs of buttons etc not yet in the right box and an envelope for pattern pieces that have strayed from home. Everything but the current project, all that mending and half-abandoned WIP stuff, is stuffed into a large zip up plastic bag thrown under the cutting table. The habit I really want to kill is covering flat surfaces with projects in waiting.

I like the dress DF, and checked out the link to sleevey wonders on your blog. Now I know what to do with the pieces of stretch lacey stuff which have been stash-lurking for a while. I have a few dresses optimistically made sleeveless.

I'd call them culottes, but I like them. I have an old pattern for very voluminous pleated trousers, and have been tempted to try it. This one is floor length, but I think the cropped look would bring it up to date.

Super fabric, the site is going on my list. What a nice shape the coat has too.

I seem to be intent on giving myself multiple 'learning opportunities' with these darn pockets. Do you ever find pins stuck in between the layers of outer and lining when it's all stitched round and looking oh so neat? So far, three have declared themselves.

Aargh, fraying fabric - I feel your pain.

Have you noticed that when something goes wrong, that's often when you get your most inventive? I've just come back to a project that had to be left for a month. It's a jacket, pretty simple really, except that I'm quilting it. I'd got the front and back assembled, stitching the side seams and shoulder seams by machine in the outer fabric and turning in the lining along the seams and hand sewing them down. Too bad I hadn't worked out how I was going to put pockets in. This has been the latest (in a long line) of 'opportunities' for puzzling out how to bodge over mistakes.
Anyone else involved in project rescue?

I think the key is to choose a fabric which has a soft drape, but I take the point that the design focus is bang in the middle of the front waist. That won't be flattering for everyone.

Will join in if I'm back home in time, though it may just be one of those one seam projects if time is short.
