Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Re: Wadding/batting

@Renegade Sewist I have an old blanket that Cosmo  :meow: used to sit on the sofa, it is not too thick so I'll have a look for it.

Thank you @Renegade Sewist  that is useful info and thanks @Bill for your offer but I'll see what  I can find about the house to use, I'm still at the planning stage.

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Re: Wadding/batting

Thank you @bec  and @Bill for your information, I only want a enough to make a mat measuring about 24" x 15" and I'm not planning any other quilt related sewing. If I've got enough fabric I was thinking of the lemons on one side and the poppies on the other both fabrics left over from cotton skirts.

I need help with choice of batting for the sewing machine mat I am thinking of making. What sort should I use and how thick is it? I've had a look on Minerva but the majority seem to be sold in bed or cot sizes. Can I buy it by the metre? Or should I just cut up on old blanket?  :S

In the wardrobe / Re: Grey wool skirt Simplicity K8128
« on: August 28, 2021, 12:31:26 PM »
The Alfa zipper foot is very slim with one "toe" and you can get right up to the zip teeth. It must be obsolete because I couldn't find it on any Alfa spares site.  Did a bit more this morning so ready for the machine tomorrow. My Italian lambswool sweaters are on the way from Amazon   0_0, all chosen to go with the grey skirt.

@Helen M  and @SkoutSews  I have just tried again with the Alfa zip foot and it went in OK  when I remembered to click it into place with the little black lever at the back off the machine  :|. I am going to pin the lining in place this morning.

What an excellent room to work in, no wonder you love it so much. Enjoy it.

@Helen M The Alfa foot is like half a foot but I realised afterwards I didn't clip it into place properly on the Janome  so I'll try again.

I sewed the lining today, I am pleased with the polyester habotai, it is very smooth and antistatic. The zip is in the skirt but I am not liking the zip foot of the Janome, having to shift it over when you sew  the other side of the zip. My Alfa zip foot wouldn't fit on the Janome. I expect I'll get used to it.

Fun with Fabric / Re: Nice lining?
« on: August 25, 2021, 16:50:27 PM »
Minerva have some pretty lining fabrics and a few more expensive fancy tailoring ones. I just bought a silver grey habotai lining for the skirt I am making from them, it is being delivered tomorrow.

I've made a start, the wool is very fine so I will line it.
