Today... One thread per day / Re: Tuesday 11th May
« on: Today at 15:46:50 »
I can hear thunder and it's gone ever so dark.  :S It's been sunshine and showers all day.

Mum doesn't have a water infection.  :( The confusion is entirely down to dementia.
Dad's been hiding a lot of how he's been coping and has been struggling for years. He said he can't cope any more with having her at home and we're looking at possible homes for her to go into.

There was a family meeting this afternoon to discuss the situation. Dad seemed OK but he's clearly upset and worried about if he's doing the right thing. We all are.

Hospital said that she didn't have any breakfast this morning and she's been sleeping a lot.

Thank you @Celia  :)
We're waiting for todays update and then perhaps it'll be clearer what we have to deal with.

It's a beautiful start to the day but some showers are expected for later.

My son's fallen out with his sister again. I'm not even sure why, even though he keeps telling me everything that's annoying him.
She's now banned from going to his wedding (there isn't one booked) and he doesn't want her to be auntie to any children he might have.  ><

Work today is a few pairs of trousers to shorten, shorten sleeves on a casual jacket, shorten a dress....Dry Cleaner's due at about half past eight. I wonder how much he'll have for me to add to the list.

Asdaman is due early afternoon. Haven't had a good food shop for weeks.  They haven't sent a subs/not available list yet but I have to go into town on Thursday for my 2nd covid jab so I'll pop to the supermarket and pick up anything which isn't available.
Hope there's nothing bulky or heavy.

We've been given a name for the problem with Mum and it's 'cognitive dementia'. She's going to have a brain scan tomorrow.
I'm not sure if the water infection idea has been dismissed or not.  -<

No great surprise to any of us but Dad seems a little troubled by the thought of looking after someone with dementia. He's been doing a great job for years but having the 'D' label's a bit daunting.
We all intend to make sure we let him know that if he feels he's struggling, he MUST let us know.

Had a productive sewing day and finished everything I'd hoped to get done today.
Menswear shop's been and he's only brought three fairly easy jobs.

Weather's been odd today with a little bit of everything. Currently bright and sunny. We had a fabulous rainbow a short time ago.

Thanks everyone  :grouphug: I'm feeling reassured about this being a water infection due to how quickly she became so confused. We know she's got a problem but she's not at the stage of forgetting who her husband is yet.

The latest news is that she's being tested and treated and as far as I know they've admitted her.

Thanks everyone. I know some of this must be horribly familiar to some of you.

Dad has phoned.
Mum woke him up last night when she went up to bed telling him to get out. She didn't know who he was. He said he calmed her down and all seemed well but he woke at half past two and she'd gone.
He found her downstairs, fully dressed and eating breakfast. He tried to talk her into going back to bed but she wouldn't so he stayed downstairs with her and tried phoning my sis-in-law for advice.
Sis-i-l phoned him this morning at 6 and an ambulance has taken Mum away to see if she might have a water infection or some such.
She attempted to take her shopping trolley with her in the ambulance thinking she would be going to Sainsbury's  >< be fair, the hospital isn't too far away from the supermarket.

A bit gloomy but it's dry and not too chilly. Showers due at some point through the day.

Mum phoned yesterday evening and was more confused than I've ever known.  :( She didn't know where anyone had gone to and mentioned that my brother hadn't gone to work. His lunch was still at home.
Then she said that there were no buses running and she hadn't been to Sainsbury's.  :S (They go to Sainbury's on Monday.)
She didn't acknowledge a word I said. My Dad was upstairs watching tv in the bedroom but when I suggested that was probably where he was, she didn't hear me.

About an hour later my brother phoned...this was after 9 o'clock last night... to say he was worried about her and that he'd found her sitting in her stairlift seat at the bottom of the stairs, wearing her coat, hat and gloves ready to go out, and she repeated much the same to him as she'd said to me. He said she doesn't always bother with her hearing aid at home so that would explain why my comments were ignored.
Big bruv left her where she was and went to the pub.
She looked like she was waiting for a bus but there aren't any running and she can't walk very far at all without my Dad. I'm not sure if my brother bothered to say anything to Dad before leaving her. Possibly not.

I'm not sure what to expect to happen next.  -< Poor Mum.

I have lots of work to plough through today. A couple of nice dresses to shorten, another lovely blue and gold Indian dress to take in (or let out. Can't remember) An Indian top to let out and a jacket to shorten the sleeves.
I'm sure there's other stuff too but I've forgotten.

It's a bit early but I think I'll go and make a start.

It looks very soggy out after all the rain but it's quite warm.

I don't know what's happened to my bridal wreath plant in the garden but it's gone splat from its centre.  :S It looks a right mess, like something heavy has landed in the middle.  -< I'll have to prune it and tidy it up.

Slept well last night after my early start yesterday morning. Got loads of work done yesterday

I intend to do a bit more on my mini quilt thing today. I've got lots of little bits but still no plan on how it's going to come together.

I love the idea of this but I feel too busy and overwhelmed with my workload at the moment so I don't feel I can join in.

Hope it happens.  :)
It's going to be fun to stand on the side-lines and see all of your work.

I'm awake too early.  |O I could hear a dripping sound and realised it was rain coming in at the top of my bedroom window and dripping onto the sill.
Great.  :\

It's an awful, wet and rainy morning. Absolutely vile, which was expected but it's still depressing to listen to.

I'll be working for much of today. Yesterday I decided to do all the grey items on the rail (there were only three shortens to do) and today I'm going to thread up in navy blue. It'll be all the black items next.
I've got a bundle of nurses uniform items, a dress, several trousers and some tops.

I'm going to go and get dressed and I'll make a start.

Thank you @justpottering  :)

I'll get back into the swing of it all soon. I've had a very, very easy year or so and I've loved it even though I've been dangerously low on money at times.  :S

I've started to complain a lot about my job but it's certain aspects of how I'm working which I think need to change. I must learn to say, 'No, I won't. Sorry'...more often and not allow people to talk me in to doing any old rubbish for them any more.

I don't think I'm up to completely changing my career path now, and I don't think I want to.

Wedding shop work isn't going to be right for me.

I've had a slow work day today with umpteen interruptions. Oldies this morning followed 10 minutes after they left by my friend who called to collect an alteration I'd done for her. She stayed about an hour. Then I quickly washed up, grabbed a bite to eat and was interrupted again by a lady who called to collect something and leave another four items. I had about an hour to sew before my big bruv arrived.

The work's all fairly straightforward from the Dry Cleaner. A couple of jobs I might have to send back needing further instruction.

@Gernella The wedding dress shop job was offering £9 an hour  :\ and there was a quite a long list of requirements/abilities. It was unclear if it was for a part time or full time position. I wouldn't want to be solely responsible for all of the sewing work. Wedding season would be horribly busy if you're working on your own.
I could imagine feeling under-appreciated and put-upon.

It's a beautiful sunny start to the day. Slept well but woke several times. I saw 4:15, 5:45, 6:15....managed to get back to sleep easily after each pointless time check and dreamt that about four or five of my front teeth fell out.

I've got more and more work arriving and am starting to feel a bit overloaded and stressed out with it all. I'm not sure where to start.  :S
Dry Cleaner's just been...early today... and he's handed me a couple of armfuls of work. Don't know exactly what it is yet but there are a couple of bags of Indian clothing amongst it all.

Menswear shop left more work yesterday. Mostly trousers to shorten but there is a casual jacket which I need to shorten the sleeves.

Daughter spotted a job the other day for a seamstress but it's in a wedding dress shop. I've been thinking about it but I really don't think I could cope with handling big frocks all day. I love the variety of work I get.
I've thought about applying just to check out the environment but I don't think it's for me.

@Sandra  .... How about a teensy sq of HeatnBond lite ???
If you reiron the finished item the glue should easily release the papers ... Ask me how I know?

Thanks @Iminei for the idea  but I've got into a nice rhythm now by just stitching them and can shift quite a few in a session.
I still don't know how I'm going to put them all together in the end but I know I need more...lots more  :S ...white ones.
