I have been gifted some fabric, and needed to say 'thank you' and say how I might use it - by letter.
I was researching blocks, and found a link to this amazing project. Perhaps everyone was aware of it at the time, but did anyone get involved?

Patterns Discussion / Places to search for non-stretch fabric patterns?
« on: January 28, 2018, 16:30:06 PM »
I'm an old-fashioned kind of girl, without any fancy machines, are there resources/sites with patterns for stable fabrics ONLY?
Or pattern sites where you can sort fabric types so that I don't keep seeing lovely shapes that turn out to be made in stretch?
Or should I be seeking vintage patterns?

Thanks
leila

For Sale, Wanted & Free to a good home / FREE - some buckles
« on: January 11, 2018, 10:00:26 AM »
I see that some folks need buckles for items they make :)

Sorry for the lack of scale here, but the largest buckle is 55mm across to give you an idea.

If anyone would like these for P&P?

:)

Okay - seems like an odd lot, but the lady obviously made or repaired 1960's undies - so if this is any use to anyone?

:pin: Among the ephemera in my latest purchase are some pins.
D F Tayler Adamantine - 'LILLS' - very short! Approx 5/8" long, I don't know what you'd really use them for?

Here's a link to a pic, not mine but this is the box type.
https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/lG8AAOSwzVhZcwtN/s-l300.jpg

The boxes are said to contain 1/4 pound, so a bit on the heavy side to post. But a full box, pins in good condition.

If someone would like them for something they do that needs tiny pins, post here and PM me  :)

Vintage Machines / Singer 401G
« on: January 10, 2018, 10:17:02 AM »
My apologies if there's already a thread on this machine - I just bought one second hand and I've taken the top of -

OMG it's filthy - it's been greased everywhere rather than oiled I think, so all the joints make nasty dry crunchy sounds and there are blobs of harden grease all over.
It's got  nasty knock/rattle somewhere at the motor end of the machine. Not entirely sure it's got an original motor in it (more investigation needed) so it might be a 'not quite fitting' replacement.

And dirty, oh gosh. No more machines for me this year, it's take a while to sort out the two I've got on the table. (Who needs a dining table we ask ourselves?)

Vintage Machines / Bernina 530-2 ornamental stich lever not moving
« on: January 05, 2018, 15:07:50 PM »
So I'm working on the 530 I bought - the motor runs although the machine is very dry, so it's been oiled and is standing for now.
However the lever which would shift the machine from zig-zag to the ornamental stitch patterns is not moving. It's set on the top of the machine, you push it to the right to release it from the teeth, and then should be able to push it forwards into a new - ornamental stitch - slot. NOTHING.

I suspect - given the previous owner, that it rarely or never did ornamental stitches, so the lever may be seized from non-use. It's had a drop of tri-flow, and I could be using the hair dryer in a while, but wondered if anyone had any other suggestions.

FYI - both of the plastic cams inside seem to be in good shape, no evidence of cracks  :)

A Good Yarn / Knitted blanket finally done
« on: December 25, 2017, 10:18:19 AM »
Probably 2 years in the doing - because I never wanted it on my lap in the summers - here at last a autumnal coloured blanket for the rocking chair in my workroom  :)

Going to do some lace overr the holidays, and then there'll be lots of stripey socks to use up all these left-over yarns!

A Good Yarn / Any bobbin lace makers here?
« on: November 11, 2017, 14:09:27 PM »
As well as sewing and knitting I also make lace. I've had a few years off due to one thing and another, but now I'm looking to get cracking again :)Although my preference is Bucks Point, I'm starting with a graded set of 10 Torchon bookmarks to get back into things.
Here are the first two.

Anyone else make lace?

First of all I'd like to give a big thank you to Iminie - you have been supportive, kind and generous with your time as well as with a super piece of equipment - I hope my work in this project repays your faith and encouragement   :toast:

So, I'm going to do my best to make 3 small handbags for friends as gifts at midwinter. All the same shape, but 3 colourways, using some fabrics I already had and some bought today at Midsummer Quilting with Imi's help.

Best irony - my husband saw a fabric he really liked, and bought a piece even though neither of us have any idea what to do with it! Reckon I'll be alright in future when I want to shop LOL

Here's a couple of shots of the bag-full I chose today, and then the sets as I hope to use them. maybe my beginners steps will help or encourage others, so I'll be posting here as I go. First search will be zips to fit the sizes and colours as I need them to insert as I go, can't wait until the end. I'm looking at 'Empress Mills' so far, they seem to have a good range of colours in shorter sizes.

I have a nice hard cover copy of 25 Bags To Knit, which I never got to grips with. It will be a bit heavy to post - but if anyone would like it you're very welcome.

This is it if anyone wants to see it

So I went through a stage of picking up nice  patterns - but lets be real I'm not going to use them.

Most of them are complete I think, some are used, some missing instructions. But if you'd like some, yours for the cost of P&P

Edited To Add - This selection has got bigger! there's now in excess of 35 patterns - adult female, 1960s through to 1980s, most complete but I haven't checked them all. If you can use them, shout out  :)
