Overlockers & Coverstitchers / Re: Tails
« on: May 03, 2018, 20:10:40 PM »
I've seen some funky videos where at the beginning you sew a couple of stitches in then bring the tail forward under the foot then sew over it a little then let the knife cut off the excess.
At the end of sewing, the fabric is flipped over, tail brought forward and then sewn over.....
That's how I do it - easy when you get used to it  :)

In the wardrobe / Re: Weekend woes....

I have this pattern and the back is very voluminous: the centre gets gathered into the back yoke.  It might be worth seeing if you can salvage something from there.  Although it won't be long enough to make the full front band you should be able to get a placket (and possibly the collar) out of it.

A Good Yarn / Re: No Swimming in this!
« on: February 04, 2018, 19:14:42 PM »
When I was in my late teens/early twenties (and not having to deal with the effects of gravity) I had a crocheted bikini in light blue colour which I wore weekly for swimming :o.  Never had any problems with what little there was to it, but when DH tells the daughters they're mortified ><

In the wardrobe / Re: Sway back adjustment
« on: July 30, 2017, 10:24:24 AM »
Thank you both.
Catllar - I just assumed it was a sway back as her back profile is quite concave, if that makes sense.  However, having read through the Patternscissorscloth link that Hachi provided I do wonder now if some other adjustment might be needed.
Hachi - thank you for those links.  I have bookmarked both and will do some more experimentation to see what will work for her.

In the wardrobe / Sway back adjustment
« on: July 29, 2017, 19:39:23 PM »
Can someone suggest a good tutorial for a sway back adjustment, please?  My daughter appears to need one and we've had a root around online but there seems to be various methods.  I would like it to be fairly straightforward (don't want to put her off) and just assumed taking a wedge out of the back would work.  Would it?  Thank you

In the wardrobe / Re: Cold shoulder?
« on: May 29, 2017, 19:52:38 PM »
Lots of cold shoulder tops around but I've only seen one that looked really good:  something that appeared to be silk on a tall, slim person probably in her early 20s.  What I absolutely don't get is cold shoulder sweaters/jumpers: aren't sweaters supposed to keep you warm?

The Haberdashery / Re: Gingher Scissors

I've got Fiskars and Ginghers for cutting fabrics.  The Fiskars are great and cut out very well, but the Ginghers are fabulous and such a pleasure to use.

Vogue patterns are my favourites.  Do plenty of practice on buttonholes and you'll wonder what you were ever concerned about.

Thank you for that.  It's about an hour away from me so definitely worth a visit.... :D
