A Good Yarn / Re: Circular Needles
« on: February 18, 2022, 23:27:29 PM »
@Acorn I have started the sleeves on my baby jacket using the magic loop method. 10 rows in and I am not enjoying it   :(

I haven't got dpns in the right size so I'm not sure whether to persevere or what to do. I'll sleep on it!

I'll be really interested to know which route you go down @SingingSinger - I've enjoyed doing the top down, in the round method, but I knew the sleeves were going to be a challenge!

I've got a inch or two still to knit on the body of the cardi, so will get onto the sleeves by the weekend. Gives me time to ponder! I've attempted magic loop before but not got the hang of it yet. It might end up being dpns. Or I might give in and just knit them flat and sew up the side seam!

Reading with interest as I'm knitting a top down baby cardigan and have been puzzling about knitting the sleeves in the round    >:)

Excellent, the Brother looks a great machine.

I've got a Brother (as well as the newer to me Pfaff 620) and I keep going back to it. It's intuitive, comfortable to use and a real workhorse. I'm sure you'll be happy with your choice :)

Vintage Machines / Re: 1936 (I think) Singer 99k worth it?
« on: January 20, 2022, 20:02:00 PM »
I think the 99k is considered a bit inferior to the 201k in any case, and that's quite a high price considering its condition. Hold out for a 201k - one will come up at the right price when the time is right  :)

Current Projects / Re: Border or no border?

My gut reaction was a dark border with the blue spotty but I'm no expert.

They are adorable. It reminds me of the toy sewing machine I had as a child. I don't recall what model mine was except it was red and did a chain stitch. :)

SingingSinger's entry #1
My small but useful make is a case for my new Knitpro interchangeable knitting needles and cables. I followed the YouTube tutorial by Erica Arndt. Cutting out the pieces was the most complicated bit. Sewing it up was fairly straightforward.

I've used fabric scraps I had sitting around so the 'lightbulb' fabric doesn't really match but I hope it will spark some inspiration in my knitting! There is a zip pocket on the outside which will be useful for keeping bits and bobs to hand.

A Good Yarn / Re: Knitting Techniques

I enjoy knitting but struggle with knitting in the round.

I'm trying to get the hang of magic loop but it's hard going. Sometimes I think I've got it but it doesn't seem to stick

I'm going to join the challenge and make a case for my new Knitpro interchangeable knitting needles.

I bought just the sizes I'll use, rather than splashing out on a full kit, so don't have a case to keep them tidy. I've found a tutorial on YouTube to follow  :D The colours may end up a bit random as I'll just use up scraps I have left over. It will be small, useful and frugal!
