I've found the reason nothing moved...

I also found that it does have power to the lamp - after I actually put a bulb in
The motor still doesn't do anything, and I can't get it out despite watching a couple of videos - it's just stuck fast. I've tried all sorts, including hair drier for heat and a screwdriver to lever (note, @Bill , not a blow torch or crow bar) and I've managed to crack the housing slightly, only slightly!.
It's currently (hopefully) soaking up some WD40, but I feel I may have to order some Plusgas...
