Current Projects / Should the dog go?
« on: April 19, 2021, 10:26:31 AM »
I’ve been making this play quilt for the expected grandson of a friend. The quilt is animal themed using a set of Dashwood fabrics and I thought I’d add a few pieced animal blocks .
The family have always owned Golden Retrievers, so I made an ‘ orange ‘dog, thinking it would match the orange in some of the fabrics. I laid out the blocks on the floor ( they’ve still to get pale grey sashing), but I feel the dog is jumping out at me. I tried putting it in the corner but that didn’t really help.
Should I make a mustardy dog
What do you think? :woof:  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Hi, I'm new... / Re: Big fat hello from (almost) newbie!

Welcome. I’m impressed that you knew how to replace brushes and clean the motor. Any sewing you do should be easy after that!

Current Projects / Re: First Quilt!

You might even manage without a walking foot, if you do lots of pinning and take it slowly @Wayfarer . I’m sure for my first quilt or two I didn’t have a walking foot. However, if you’re planning on making more quilts, it’s probably worth investing in the proper one for your machine.
Tara is a lucky dog to get such a special bed - here’s hoping she avoids all the muddy puddles :D

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Re: Wall Hanging

Absolutely beautiful. No one would guess there were ugly fabrics and a wrongly threaded stitches in there- it’s stunning  :D

Thank you all, though the credit for design goes to @Iminei : it’s more or less a copy of one that she made. :D

I finished the table runner last night, so here it is. Still a little stiff , but it’ll soften in time. Just in time to protect the table from all the summer sun ( I hope)  :D

Yes, that’s what I meant @Sara-S . There are other patterned fabrics in the petals, but one is more boldly patterned than the rest and I felt it was standing out too much. Thank you for your comments, it’s good to hear what other people think, even if I’ve no intentions of changing it!  :D

Yes, @RJR_38 , they were from me. Forgot to use my TSP name, but you guessed correctly  :)

Here’s my lovely tulip mug rug, which goes very well with the wooden tulips on my kitchen table. Even the back is beautiful, with a cat on a mat. Made by @charley - thank you!  :flower: :loveit:

I’ve now managed to do all 5 flowers, so the borders next. Just need to work out the size to fit the width of the table. I’m not sure about the very floral fabric, but it’s staying now! It’s just for me, so no need to be absolutely perfect  :P

Yes @Sara-S , eventually I will do five flowers plus border and make it into a long thin table runner, which will cover and protect the whole table. I’ve now made two, but upcycling furniture for my daughter is keeping me away from sewing. :'(

A Good Yarn / Re: Yet another blue cardi

Lovely cardigan, seriously scary back picture!

I’ve made 2 blocks now and it is easy. You don’t even have points to match up, the way the flower centre joins up. I just printed out the template and then used it to cut out the pieces. It goes together very quickly. Colour choice is important, but it always is.

Oops, didn’t realise that we were supposed to wait until the 20th to open.   :|

I thought we just had to wait until then to put the photos up. Apologies , but at least my swapper knows it’s arrived safely.

I made the first block this afternoon. Colours were chosen to go with terracotta tiles in my conservatory, though this photo makes the colours a little brighter than they really are. I have 2 other fabrics to use, to create a bit of variety in the flowers. I discovered that using self coloured fabric, I have to be really careful not to sew on the wrong side. I was quite confused at one point, until I realised that’s what I’d done and unpicked!  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
