Don't believe that for a moment, it's fab.

4.5 on my Janome just means the needle is in the central position.

If I sew a seam with the needle at 4.5 and the regular pressure foot I will get a 3/8" or 1 cm seam if I run the fabric on the edge of the pressure foot.  A 5/8" seam is about 1.5cm.

Not completely accurate but near enough for me.

Did anyone else read who their swapee is and think 'oh crickey!'? :S

What lies beneath... / Re: Swimsuit cups
« on: March 20, 2018, 16:52:59 PM »
My only advice is DONT BUY PRYM CUPS.

I did when I was in a rush, they are hard and scratchy and I had to cut them out, luckily we were miles from nowhere so I didn't offend anybody.

If you havent got your fabric yet try https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/felixdanceleisurewear16/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=

I got two lots of swimwear fabric from them for a few pounds, really good quality.  I intended it for a toile but actually made two swimsuits that I used.

If you do Craftsy, Beverley Johnson's Supportive Swimwear class is excellent

Courses & Classes / Re: cover pro

I bought the coverstitch basics course and was not very impressed.

The content was ok but there was nothing that I hadn't found on YouTube or Google.

There is a good FB group for Janome/Elna coverstitch users that has lots of good info and links.

I've found the most important things to remember are to use good quality needles of the correct size and type and also to use stretch thread in the looper.

Thank you Sandra, lovely clear instructions and photos.

It's wonderful when people take so much time to help others.

Access All Accessories / Re: Baby changing bags
« on: March 15, 2018, 16:09:23 PM »
@Deafoldbat I could make a fortune if I could develop a Baby Metamorphosis bag.

Insert your smelly wingy baby, shake gently and open to reveal a smiley angelic child who never cries or pukes.

@Lowena tatty is a kind description of my big GS.  How anyone can get so scruffy in the course of a day, when I know his mum sent him to school looking lovely, is beyond me. He attracts dirt like a magnet.

@sewingj  I be never fancied those bags that turn into a changing mat. I wouldn't want some of the nappies I've changed anywhere near the contents of any bag.

I may have to treat myself to the Lisa Lam book, the sacrifices we make for our children!

@Ohsewsimple thanks for the heads up on the errors, I may need to consult you later.

ETA, is it too wrong to hope for a little girl who might want pretty GM made dresses?

Welcome from me too.

Lots of lovely things to read and be inspired by here.

Had anybody else noticed we are getting very cosmopolitan all of a sudden, most of the newbies are not UK based. How very refreshing.  I didn't think of Welsh when I first noticed the thread, I just thought of orange juice :S :S

Has anybody made a changing bag and can recommend a particular pattern?

I need to make one for DD, after two boys the old one is getting tatty.

I've looked for patterns but there is so much choice I'd love to get a recommendation of one that really works.

I've got a couple of ideas for the cushion swap, it just depends who I get to make for.

I've so much on at the moment (new grandbaby that I'm not supposed to tell anybody about ;)) that cushions are a lovely thing to do.  Not too big and easier to quilt.

I'm really looking forward to it, just hoping a few more peeps can join in.

Your Favourite Suppliers / Re: buying sewing thread
« on: March 12, 2018, 17:00:10 PM »
There was a thread recently that recommended Guttermans Mara as the industry equivalent of Sew All and the prices were excellent.

Sorry I'm on my tablet at the moment so can't do a link but it was only in the last week.

So sorry supergran, it's a hard time.

How about a good spray with water on the puffy bits and see if they tighten when they dry.

A bit less drastic than a full wash.
