Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Re: Where is Everyone?

@Lilian They’re great, I love that idea. I’m still dipping my toe into free machine embroidery but having fun, all the same.

I've been unwell with a cold but have been thinking about which to choose between a log cabin (I have only ever made one single log cabin block!) or a french braid pattern for gifts.

I’m currently planning and making Xmas gifts and just wondering what a French braid pattern is and how you make a gift out of it?

I know how to do a French braid/plait with hair.  ;)

Overlockers & Coverstitchers / Re: Lidl overlockers

I’ve had mine for a couple of years and it works fine for what I need. I’m sure I’ll upgrade and get a better one in time but there are no sewing shops nearby so buying secondhand is just as risky.

I bought this book and it’s really helped me a lot.

These are mine - both 10" x 6" approx. They will probably be gifts.

They’re stunning!  :loveit:  I particularly like the fabric choices on the first bag.

Here’s mine. Nowhere near as adventurous as the others, but it’s a gift for my sister, so I happy with it.
I still need to find a suitable button. I might have to visit some charity shops to see if there’s anything that might work. I’ve also been making little coin purses to trial as potential Christmas gifts.
I really enjoy these sorts of little projects.

Obviously, I’m no quilter but I do use a plastic triangle ruler for cutting out bunting triangles.

For Sale, Wanted & Free to a good home / Re: Bernina 1015

That Juki looks like a nice clean machine. What would the normal price be around?
I know it’s a Japanese brand but I don’t really know anything about them. Are they reliable?
I thought Juki made Industrial sewing machines so I’m not really very familiar with them.

I got it home and took the cover off.
It’s not as clean as I thought and why on earth would someone go to the trouble of removing the name badges??

So far, I think it’s a Sew-Trick Ltd and there’s a serial number. A582650

Also, I’ve just realised that maybe Vintage machines means really old ones and I guess this is probably 70’s?  :S

Any thoughts from you more knowledgeable peeps?

I popped into a charity shop next to the supermarket to browse through the books and a chap was on his way through the shop door with what looked liked an old sewing machine in its case.

I asked him what he’d got and he said he was throwing it out as they’d plugged it in and it wasn’t working. No idea what came over me but I said, I might like to buy that. He lifted the lid and it looked clean and tidy.  Manager (who I know well) said I could have it for €5 to include the 2 books I was holding. I asked the manager to drop it off for me on his way home (he passes my house) as I didn’t have the car with me.

I’m home now and wondering what on earth I’ve bought??
I won’t know until he drops it off later but I remember it was beige coloured, has a black motor with a rubber belt attached to the hand wheel. It had a lever sticking out on the front that went up and down?
When it arrives, I’ll take a photograph and post it to this thread and see if any of you lovely experts can advise me if it’s worth trying to get it fixed.  :vintage:  :)

Patterns Discussion / Re: Mary Quant 60’s style Free Patterns

I don’t think they’re the original patterns but new ones based on her original designs, because it says they have been created for the V&A exhibition by Alice &Co. patterns. So on that basis, I imagine they’re using current standard measurements...?

I spotted these 2 free PDF patterns via the V and A museum website.

I like the look of the Georgie dress myself.

Sorry, if this has already been posted elsewhere, I searched but couldn’t find anything.
