Cracked it I think!!!  Simplicity 9058 - really like this and as with the kaftan suggestions  can just alter the button positions!

Patterns Discussion / Do you know of a pattern for this?
« on: August 07, 2022, 15:15:59 PM »
Does anyone know of a pattern that will make a top which is basically two long oblongs, buttons all the way long the top, i.e. down the top of the right arm and down the top of the left arm with a gap for the head. It will hang over the  body and need a cami underneath. I know it sounds simple enough to 'cobble' a pattern but I'm not  so sure.

Ouryve - you little gem!!!!   I found the tutorials on Youtube didn't do enough close ups but the manual you have directed me to is spot on!   Thank you very much.

Morning Ladies - I am currently borrowing the 334DS by Bernina and am in desperate need of the threading instructions.  Does anyone have this manual?  All I really need is a picture of the threading system as following the colour coding on the actual machine is not working for me.

Overlockers & Coverstitchers / Re: Heavy Duty Overlocker

I'm interested in the comments about the Singer as I have definitely been leaning towards this machine.  I took the description Heavy Duty to refer to the machine capabilities and not its casing material, for example it does have a 60% larger knife.

I am looking at buying an overlocker suitable for reasonably heavy/difficult fabric, i.e. denim, canvas and fleece.  The only one I have come across is the new Singer HD0405S.  Does anyone have any experience of this machine please.  All others seem to be of the industrial type which require a special table.

I think its called kapok.   Got problems smoothing out the lumps so hopefully the batting will do the job.

Yes I had thought of putting individual pads inside but the client does not want any outside stitching and the pads would just move about.  I have ordered 12oz thick batting which, if I wrap this round the stuffing, hopefully will smooth over the content.

I am re-using the original stuffing but obviously it is totally out of shape.   Foam is not an option and its rattan conservatory furniture so horsehair is also not appropriate.  The original stuffing was inside those thin white paperish covers which are now in pieces!

I have to stuff the back cushion of a conservatory settee so its about 4 ft long and 2.5 ft wide.  Try as I might I cannot get the stuffing level and I was thinking the best thing to do would be to put the stuffing inside a layer of the thickest batting I can get which I think is 8oz.   Any advice would be welcome.

Thank you so much for your interest in solving my problem ladies.  I have had to temporarily put it to one side as I have a mountain of box cushions to make!   And I can't say I'm sorry!!

This probably tells you more about me than anything else!!

I could blame it on Christmas and Covid maybe,
But to tell the truth – its all down to me,
I brought lovely things to eat from the store,
And then I went back and brought a lot more.
So that horrible word which means losing weight,
I can’t say it out loud but it starts from this date!
I try not to look in the windows we pass,
I’m sure by the way that its magnified glass.
I used to be slender – I weighed seven stone,
Now that’s the weight of my leg – on its own!
Men used to look over this slim frame of mine,
Now they don’t bother – it takes too much time.
I can still remember that lovely day when
I could put on a thong and find it again,
My bras were once sexy with tassels to twiddle
Now I buy them from Aldi – that aisle down the middle.
The only scales I once bothered about
Were those to be found on the side of a trout.
And so I will do it though it brings me sorrow,
I’m going to diet – starting tomorrow!

I cannot see from the instruction page that the top is lined so don't understand why it says cut 2 of the front top.   I have contacted Butterick Customer Services - no reply!
There is a centre front, which is not a seam, marked on the pattern.  But it doesn't say fold along the foldline and bring to centre front.  Will put it aside and have another look in a couple of days.  Thank you ladies!
