I was thinking about a row or 2 of HST - any thoughts?

@Bjay When I get to the 'what next?' point, I usually find that leaving the top where you can look at it in passing helps. The quilt will tell you.
Depending on what you have left, maybe another frame then HSTs or flying geese? Of course they don't have to go all the way round... you could go round opposite corners, or part of each side. If you're short of fabric, you might find you've got similar colours that you could sneak in to pad out the remains. If you just want to add length and aren't worried about symmetry (ie all 4 sides must match) just add patches top and bottom and declare it finished.

@Tamnymore @HenriettaMaria

As in the probably apocryphal 'How do you spell your surname?' 'Pa'erson. With two ts.'

I did wonder about regular kiddies felt tips. The ones that are meant to not ruin their clothing.

I use the Berol handwriting pens - the ones marked washable- for marking quilting lines, and to date have had no problem with them washing out. The down side is they only come in blue and black. I don't put a hot iron on the marks in case that sets the colour.

@Sara-S I've had one of those for a while. It does save the fingers.

@Mrs_Robinson

If the Sandhurst on your name tag is the one on thr Berks/Hants border, you could try this place. I have used him in the past. Have a chat with him perhaps?

Leaving aside all this chat about oiling sewing machines (or not) @Mrs_Robinson there is a pdf manual for the Jones Z690 on this site

https://www.sewingonline.co.uk/jones-manuals-2.html

scroll down until you find it. (Was this the one you tried before?)

There is also a pdf manual listed here https://sewingwishlist.com/jones-manuals-2.html, though the site looks remarkably like the previous one.

Of course, if you sew them together alternating the direction of light and dark, it gets called 'broken dishes' - though there are at least 3 other blocks called that too....how come those people were so sure they were right? Anyway, that's their problem, not yours. It's always interesting to see the variations colour and value placement gives to a simple pattern.

What’s amazing me is that after making 26 6.5” blocks and having strips cut for at least another 10 blocks, the scrap box doesn’t look any emptier.

@Ellabella Tell me about it!  :rolleyes:
