Sewalongs and Competitions / Re: November and December Contest: Festive Fun
« on: December 07, 2022, 09:12:04 AM »
StitchinTime’s entry #1

My contribution to the Festive Fun is some charity sewing for a hospice Christmas Fayre.

First I made 18 reusable gift bags from a double duvet and pillowcase set. Some bags are a simple drawstring style and others have a boxed base with a cardboard insert to give more structure.

Then I made several tree decorations using a variation on EPP and were made by tacking fabric to hexagon papers, folding each in half and then sewing three hexagons together.

I included ribbon for hanging and added some beads and bells to given them some weight to help them hang.

Everything I made sold at the Fayre, so I think I will be on the look out for another festive duvet set in the sales to make more next year.

@LeilaMay My patterns were waiting for me when I got home from work today. Great service for second class post! Thanks for offering these patterns for sale and I hope the storage box fund is growing nicely.

Could I have Simplicity 1431 and Vogue 9171 if they’ve not already been requested?

I like the bottom right photo - it looks to be a plain aqua border and navy binding. Aqua seems to be an accent colour in the quilt top and I think this border picks up on that.

Weaver Dee has a filter on their pattern page for “jumpsuits, dungarees and onesies” which might be a starting point.

Perhaps @Vezelay could clarify if it is a border or a band inserted into the backing that they are considering.

If it is a band, I like the option of the pieced band, though the burgundy would also work and could be used for the binding as well.

@Diane When you order the new laptop, check to see what type (and how many) USB ports it has. The new laptops we have at work only have USB-C ports and we have had to order adapters/hubs so we can use our external keyboards, mice, headsets, etc.

@Puzzler I think Siblings Together and Quilts for Care Leavers are separate. The Quilts for Care Leavers website is:

The only thing is it doesn’t have a cover

I’m sure that can be easily sorted. A carry case (with or without wheels) would probably be more use than a cover for taking it out and about.

I will have to get rid of my Janome 4300 QDC, i won't have room for this and won't need it so it will have to go.

Someone in deepest darkest Dorset is looking for a small Janome, not mentioning any names  :ninja:

@Iminei Would you consider buying from eBay and the machine being posted from Scotland? If so, this might be of interest:

I am slightly disturbed that my unworthy image is plonked on top of your lovely royal tribute!
@Greybird Could you change your avatar to one of the Queen while the tribute banner is in place?

Comparing the two lists of accessories and looking at photo in the Gumtree listing, I don’t think much is missing. Obviously there is no soft cover but you could easily make one. The only feet I think are missing are the open toe appliqué foot and perhaps the ditch quilting foot (though there appears to something similar in the photo).

However, and this may be the deal breaker, the second hand machine doesn’t have a red spool pin felt!
