My mother used to be an avid patchworker/quilter but sadly is no longer able to sew. So I have rather a lot of books which I am unable to use - I'm a dressmaker and probably won't get into patchwork now

I don't know the best way to sell them, but I will start off as follows:

Books are up to £5 each plus postage. If you let me know what you are interested in I can give you a total quote.

If you need a book on a particular subject such as embroidery, sashiko, Japanese quilting etc I may be able to find it fir you

Tech Know How / An hour trying to submit post
« on: March 27, 2022, 16:16:14 PM »
I have spent an hour trying to upload a post on the 'for sale' section. Each time I do it it says "an error has occurred - you have already submitted this post."!
Yet when I look the post is not there. (this is the first time I have tried a post with a photo attached) . Any ideas please?

Sewing Spaces and Furniture / Two sewing rooms into one!
« on: March 18, 2022, 22:03:35 PM »
I am a keen dressmaker and used to have an alterations business.  However things have been very quiet since the covid years so I have decided to now sew for pleasure.  My lovely mum is 93 and a keen patchworker, but is unfortunately unable to sew any more.  So I have started to sort out her work room and will have to incorporate all her quite considerable stash into my smaller workroom!

This is further complicated as I don't know which direction my sewing will now take so I want to keep everything!
Help! :headbang:

Embroidery and Embellishment / Machine embroidery tips please?
« on: March 13, 2022, 22:26:48 PM »
Having recently acquired my mum's Pfaff which has more embroidery features than my Bernina, I am keen to give it a go. First question - if you are using embroidery threads or metallic, what is the best thing to put in the bobbin? Would it be an ordinary thread such as guttermans in a similar colour or bobbin fill and do you loosen the needle tension so that the bobbin thread doesn't show on the front?

Also is it best to back with tissue paper, vilene or 'stitch-n-tear'?

Sorry for all the questions! I am changing from working on alterations to a hobby sewist so hope to also spend more time on here!

Does anyone know how old a knitting or sewing machine needs to be to be considered vintage?

Sewing Machines / Pfaff Problem
« on: March 11, 2022, 11:58:03 AM »
Ive just acquired my mum's Pfaff Creative 1473D which has not been used for a while.  It all works well, but when winding a bobbin it seems impossible to stop the needle going up and down.  I have released the flywheel (is that what it is called?)
but is still doesn't disengage.  Any advise would be appreciated before I succumb to having it serviced?
