so have decided to offer a few for sale each month ...

In the wardrobe / The Continuing Journey of a Giant Jersey Virgin
« on: June 02, 2017, 19:41:44 PM »
This is a replica of the previous thread which , at least to me, seems to have vanished into thin air!!

This is my log and a conduit for my endless questions, queries and SOS's to yourselves for my journey through the Japanese Sewathon ......

Day 1

.....and I return to the pattern I had so carefully traced from the multiple images in the book (Drape Drape 2) last month. I'm quietly pleased with how neat it looks, I'm quite a good tracer I believe.

Looking through the book at the pictures of the gorgeous garments elegantly draped on the amorphous models, a lil inkling starts to nag at the back of my mind.

Yes, the models are lovely aren't they?
So aloof, pale and insouciant ... almost waif like....
the niggling in my mind turns into screeching alarm bells as my T shirt clad breasts get in the way of my view....

All my life I have been a Small, sometimes almost a Tiny...
certainly shoe shopping is a thankless task as I take a 2 - 3 and no British shoe shop knowingly stocks anything in that size that isn't covered in pink glitter or butterflies.

As for clothes; another horrendous task, that has put me off shopping for life. Nothing fits in the trouser department, almost always too big and if I want a dress, I better be able to take it in at the waist and hips or leave it on the rails...

I riffle through the pages of the book, frantically searching for anything about ...sizes!
Ah ! here we go ...... the patterns come in 4 sizes ... S, M, L and XL ... Extra large ???

I had cut this pattern on the S mark and i now feverishly hunt for a tape.
Their measurements are in cms ... designed to make you feel elephantine at the best ...I mean 36" or 91 cm ??

Scanning through the sizes I realise from being petite I have now grown into a Giantess (can I blame the menopause??? I know I've put on a kilo or two but no .... these measurements are for fashion models, anorexics or wraiths only )

Small ... (remember this is the mark on which I traced my pattern....)
Height  153 cm, Bust 78 cm, Waist 58 cm, Hips 84 cm

Medium ...
Height  158 cm, Bust 82 cm, Waist 62 cm, Hips 88 cm

Large ... (!!!)
Height  163 cm, Bust 86 cm, Waist 66 cm, Hips 92 cm

XLarge ... (Gulp!)
Height  168 cm, Bust 90 cm, Waist 70 cm, Hips 96 cm

and of La Iminei ???? (as measured by herself ...with a shaky hand)

Height  160 cm, Bust 96 cm, Waist 76 cm, Hips 86 cm

My heart sank... not only was the neatly traced pattern that I had been so foolishly proud of totally the wrong size I was also officially a giantess or at the very least clinically huge!

So I have been busy altering the pattern, scribbling out lines, sellotaping on bits here and there and now it all looks very much like last nights cold Chop Suey !!!  :(

Next stop ... Have I enough fabric ??? It was tight at the start but now ??

Block of the Month 2017 / Block of the Month - June - Kimono
« on: June 01, 2017, 08:31:40 AM »
Flaming June at last

and in honour of Junes Japanese Sewalongathon

May I present

The Kimono Block

https://goo.gl/photos/NEDqD55voVkBoyYf8

This is a large block .... mine measured around 20" x 16" after squaring up .....
which would make a lovely wall hanging on its own or a quickly assembled quilt with sashing and a border.

9 Blocks with 1 1/2" sashing and 6" border will make a quilt approximately  62" x 74".

Hi guys, Im having the B&W jobby layered on the 7th June so need to get some wadding sorted. I looked at some in the Emporia but the only 100% cotton they had was Hobbs which was off white with hideous dark flecks all over it.

The problem being that as the B&W jobby's White fabric is such a thin cotton sheeting (WHY WHY WHY did i bot think of the Design shops curtain lining ??? GGRRRR !!! ) any flecks will be very noticeble beneath the white areas.

So what I need are your thoughts, advice, recommendations for a really white 100% cotton wadding ....

Ladies, Yesterday I gaily sailed down to the Emporia for the backing, wadding and binding for The B&W jobby.

Quelle 'Orroir !!!

No wadding, no binding and I grabbed the last of the backing fabric like a drowning Girl!

Soooooo as you have probably guessed by now

Has anyone got or know where I can get half a metre or so of the middle fabric shown here!

Its from Makower,
the Henley Studio and the White background version (not the one Im after) has a code of 2012/3

Current Projects / Twist and Twirl Tut evolving
« on: May 17, 2017, 10:53:45 AM »
into a 21st Birthday present for my lovely niece Lucia!

So I started with some TnT blocks.....

No I need way more than that ...and what about adding some red???  :sew:

Ooohhhh I like that!!! But we still need LOADS more TnT blocks.....Back to the sewing machine  :sew:

The lengths okay but I'm going to go Bananas making enough blocks to cover the width...
How about inserting strips between each row, making each strip 1/2" wider the further from the centre they go ???

That works!!! then with a border It 'll be bish bash bosh and we're home and dry...

Right two halves sewn and ready for the border... I fancy some red in those too... and smaller, say 2" finished...
Now what measurements am I looking at (eyes the two halves hung against the wall of the dining room)

WTF ????? AAAAGGGGHHHHHHH!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Can you spot the stupid mistake????? (impossible not to, really!)   :(

Have been having a sort out of my bookcase and found these two books that need a new home.

I have tried to find them on the internet......one of them is offered in America for £70 !! and the other I can't find.

They are in immaculate condition, to be honest I don't think they've even been read as I had trouble getting the pages to stay open for an interior shot.

If you are interested please pm me but be warned, the Pictograph style destructions, with the exception of measurements (Phew! Lucky!) are in Japanese !
