Sewalongs and Competitions / Re: Autumn / Winter 3-piece Sewalong

I had intended to make this combo about a year ago and never got around to it.  I have a sweater knit for the cardigan and some some Dutch Cotton/Lyrca in a marine color for the top and pants.  I don't know if I'll get to it or not since I have a lot of work to do in my Pattern Design course and I'm sort of wanting to use my custom fitting sloper for any new tops.  But, it's still a WIP and I don't expect it to be completed until next month.  We just went over what to do with our fitting muslin yesterday.

@SewRuthieSews are you planning to ever work again?  If not then there is probably no point in keeping work only clothes.  I never had strictly work clothes.  It was more private at home vs public wardrobes.

I've been looking at consignment shops for some of my higher end boutique items that are now too big for me after losing 20lbs.  They cost too much for me to want to donate to a charity shop. Not really interested in going the eBay route.  I loved eBay when it was strictly an auction site but don't like what it has morphed into.  Plus with all the fees it feels like the net amount I'd make would be minimal.  What will probably happen is after enough time passes I will be able to more easily get rid of an item.  I imagine consignment would be less hassle and probably would end up with the same amount in pocket.

Today... One thread per day / Re: Tuesday 14th September

I'm up early today because I have Pattern Design class today.  I've been busy doing homework all week.  We had to create four designs (tracing a croquis) with coloring in, fabric swatch, etc.   Rather difficult when I have no drawing skills.  Also doing a lot of dart rotation.  Fun stuff. Our instructor will choose the design we have to make. Mine are all similar.  Not really what I want to make because a sleeve and collar are required and I mostly wear sleeveless and collarless.  I'm doing cap sleeves so I can remove them later.

It's still hot here at 106F/41C for a few more days.  Probably have about two more weeks of pool weather before the water gets too cold.

Have a good day/evening.

I thought it was all over the place.  Too many suits.  There was a handful of things I liked.  I may make a few things for winter but I already have SA patterns for that.

Thanks @Celia  I didn't realize they'd added copy shop.  I couldn't figure out if those can be set to print only one size or not.  If so I'd be tempted to try them again.

I have made a handful of Jalie's. They're OK but I personally hate their zillion sizes thing. I find it very difficult to follow the lines for a particular size.  Some of the newer patterns let you hi-light limited sizes but then it limits one to printing many pages which is a another negative.  If I could limit the sizes and do copy shop I might actually use them again.  But at the moment I'm not interested.

edit: fixed typo

Lovely dress.

Because you have small print wall paper I'd go with the larger print on the bottom right because it has more white space.  Or at least it seems to.  Plus the one shade of blue seems a good match with the paint.

@William are you familiar with Pattern Review?  There are six reviews of the Recoleta Dress.

My machine is in front of a window (north facing) however I never open the curtains.  The window faces the street so it's not exactly a compelling view.  And with it being Arizona opening them would end up being too bright.  Since my eyes are sensitive to light I tend to keep my house pretty dim most of the time. Aside from that I don't like people being able to see into my house so I never open the window coverings on the north side.

My sewing room curtains aren't sheer but they are relatively light weight so some light does come through. My feelings are neutral about it.  I didn't put the sewing machine there because of the window but rather because it's the longer part of my L shaped table and it made more sense to have that extra space for sewing.

Very nice, @Ploshkin

The sewing machine looks a little lonely.

A Good Yarn / Re: My first woven item
« on: July 11, 2021, 20:14:23 PM »
@Celia ... yes I'm going to buy a 25" Schacht loom.  They're made in the state of Colorado.  The shop only sells Schacht and Ashford ... the latter made in NZ.   I asked about the differences and they were minimal though the weaving teacher prefers Schacht and given the choice I prefer to buy things made in my own country.

25" should give me enough width to weave yardage which is my primary goal.

edit: fixed spelling error ... why do I not see them?

Yesterday I had a second weaving class called "the next steps" which went over different types of things you can do like Leno lace, clasped weft, two colors, intentional floats, etc. I have one more class in three weeks that is on clasped weft using multiple colors.

It's apparent from my work that my Leno lace doesn't look so good and I will have to work on evenness.  I didn't bother with completing the ends or washing this one since it's not usable for anything which is a pity since I like my color choices.

How are they "stitching" them together @Gernella?
The same way we do?  With tape or is it a more professional process?

It's way too hot for me to even think about fall clothes but I like the Betzina sleeveless top/skirt (that makes it look like a dress).  I almost always like the coats by Julio Cesar.  But otherwise not much interests me at first glance.
