4th Block done. We had the same problem with Block 3 where it has come up smaller than it should and needed a border (there was not going to be any unpicking on this!). After checking everything it turns out that our seams are too large (thought we were using a 1/4” foot) which was fine in the first 2 blocks where there weren’t many seams but crucial in the last 2 which had a whole heap more seams!  Anyway, have now trialled and worked out which foot is best and where seam should be so shouldn’t happen again. Block attached.

to replicate the pattern picture  and in a Teal colour is a big ask.

It’s an even bigger ask as I’m trying to match to one of 2 pairs of shoes

I don’t really know what I need other than a soft net/tulle. I’ve never seen with stretch fabrics of any sort. It has to have some give. I’m hoping to get a stretch crepe or stretch cotton sateen for the main dress. It’s a lekala pattern so details are sparse!

Just wondering if any of you dance peeps could point me in the right direction. I’m wanting to make a dress for my friends wedding and I need some mesh for it. I’ve had a look at a couple of “real life” retailers and what I’m looking for is a mesh that is like tulle, with a bit a stretch. I’ve had a look online for stretch mesh but it just seems to bring up powernet which I’m not sure is what I’m looking for.  If anyone can advise what I should be looking for and/or retailers, that would be great.  It has to be fairly translucent, oh and I’m looking for teal. I’ve attached a picture of the dress to give you an idea. Thanks

It could be worse! Have you seen the stuff they use on the pattern? I don't understand why they make and pose these things to look like something from The Great Depression!

I absolutely love the brown ditsy print fabric!

Two different ways Snoozi? I'll end up like...who was it, Jan or Riccardo on the Sewing Bee? One in back to front.

Oh yes!  Lost count of the number of T-shirts I have for that one  :S

@wrenkins  Just had a quick look at your pattern and that is lovely, very cute.  What fabric are you using.  Just thinking that as it is a coat, you may need to apply steam to get the easing sorted and a nice shape to the sleeve head, which you won't be able to do by doing it flat.

You can do the sleeves either way, tube or flat.  Doing it the tube way is generally the more accepted way though, IMO.  I recently did a sleeve the flat way as I wanted to use a french seam on the sleeves and side seam and found it more tricky.  I personally think it is easier to fit the sleeve and adjust any ease when it is as a tube and in its proper format as you can see what it will look like.

A bit of a 'do' / Re: Jackety things to wear over dressy dresses
« on: May 09, 2019, 15:47:49 PM »
I think I would go for a shawl or wrap or a jacket that is less structured than a work jacket.  I don't think I'd go for a lace cover-up as it would compete with the lace on the dress.
