Events / Sewing for Pleasure NEC

Sewing for Pleasure is on at the NEC from 17th - 20th March. I'm going to go on Thursday all being well and trains playing nicely.
Is anyone else thinking of going?
There are three linked shows:
The Creative Craft Show
Fashion & Embroidery
Sewing for Pleasure
So there should be something interesting to see. I've also penciled in Saturday if I enjoy it so much but that is much more nebulous.
I want to look at new embroidery machines and overlockers. Not to buy just yet

but to have a play and see what I think. I'm looking forward to it.

I have surplus embroidery threads, part of a lot bought from auction. Some are used, some are brand new. Variety of manufacturers but all are reliable brands, the auction was an embroidery company that had sadly closed down.
I only want £1 for 5000m cones, 50p for 1000m cones, well used cones just 25p!! plus postage (£3.20 small parcel).
Most colours are available. I sent about 30 x 1000 cones for £3.20 so the more you buy the better it is!!

Black Lacey soft handle. No idea of composition but feels like soft cotton.
1 3/8 x 2 yards
Stretches but not too much.
Think I had it for a cardigan but honestly can't remember I've had it for so long.

Black 'lace' fabric.

Bit of a crosswise stretch. Like crotchet to look at.
42" /107cms wide x 2 3/8 yard /2.20m
95% cotton 5% nylon
Original label on it when it was £6.25 per metre.
I've had it for years (& years!!!!) and have decided I'll never use it.

I used this over a decade ago as a base idea for my grandson's quilt. It has applique patterns and full instructions. Free to anyone that wants it. [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
This pattern is no longer on their site but boys car/truck patterns on there are 22nzd (about £11)

I recently came across this site and was amazed at the amount of free designs they have. They are mostly in the hoop designs and I've acquired some to try.
Has anyone else done any of these?
Once the quilt is out of the way I think I'll have fun trying these out.

The truth will out. I am a closet patchwork and quilter but I've stayed below the radar because I learnt in the school of 'blunder-around-till-it-works'. I then graduated to the 'That's-near-enough' academy before getting my degree in 'That'll-do'. Hence my embarrassment before all the precise greatness on here.

Anyway, my Christmas project this year was to make my grandchildren cuddle quilts to use whilst watching tv, snuggle under when on 'puter etc during advent. I first started with the idea of a quillo but the flipping thing kept evolving and changing until I ended up with this:

There are 12 Christmas embroideries and then some mismatched strips and whatnots. Do not look closely!!! My excuse is that it will be used for perhaps three weeks in every year so it's not worth getting het up about. Near enough is good enough in my book!!c

I just need to do the label to go on it but otherwise it is finished. I did think I would top stitch all around the edge. Mistake. Big Mistake. It gave the edges a hard feel where everything else is is cuddly and soft. It took forever to unpick

I backed it with a Christmas fleece from B&M.
So this is grandson's finished.
I now have to finish granddaughter's.
I may be gone some time.....

Access All Accessories / My sidetracked bag

I was in the middle of making myself a shirt when I saw an embroidery design from Urban Threads that I fell in love with, so I bought it and instantly wanted to stitch out.
But I wanted it to be useful, so decided to make another shopping bag (I find this design very practical as a shopping bag and excellent for adding embroidery). I then rootled through my stash and discovered an offcut of black twill from my son's trousers - just enough to squeeze the bag back, sides and fronts out of (ignoring a few inroads into the seam from previous cutting). A further rootle produced the navy remnants from making my husband's fishing style waistcoat and so a bag was born.
I've made several of these bags and have altered the lining to have a fabric band at the top and to include one zipped pocket and one patch pocket. I also add fleece interfacing, a magnetic closure and lengthen the straps to MY size.
This was no precision sewing - in fact it was more Sewing Bee gung ho let's get it finished slap dash mayhem - But I like it!!
Everything from my stash - apart from the two downloaded embroideries - so no major financial outlay.
Well pleased with it.
Now to get back to my shirt.......
