In the wardrobe / Re: Your oldest garment
« on: April 30, 2020, 10:17:52 AM »
I have a lambskin jacket that I bought in 1971 and I still wear it when it's very cold.  I also have a couple of pairs of shoes that are nearly twenty years old.

Ivory or ecru, I would avoid darker colours in case the colour runs when washed.

Sewing Machines / Re: Big disappointment
« on: April 16, 2020, 13:12:35 PM »
@KayK  - I'm sure you will enjoy using your Bernina and have you been offered the free day's tuition to get to know your machine.  Obviously it won't be possible at the moment but it's well worth taking when we are back to normal times.

@Lizzy777 -  I found by going through Home>Blog>Free Patterns and you can then download it from there.

Patterns Discussion / Re: ISO pattern for housecoat
« on: April 12, 2020, 12:28:22 PM »
@UttaRetch -  I also made a nightdress that sounds very similar, Style 1797, at school and I still have the pattern as it's been used many times over the past fifty or so years.  I've made countless nightdresses both for me and friends and I also made it as sundresses for one friend.

It might be worth ringing round some of the Bernina dealers as they may be able to help or try Bogod who are the agents for Bernina in this country.

@UttaRetch
This pattern dates back to the mid-1970s and was great to wear.

I use something called Seams Great but otherwise a lightweight interfacing to stabilise the shoulder seams.

Have you tried using two threads and a larger needle as this can give a good effect.

A Good Yarn / Re: Knitting for premature babies

I knit little blankets for premature babies, very slowly as I'm not a very good knitter but I do enjoy doing them.

Fun with Fabric / Re: Needle cases?
« on: March 24, 2020, 11:21:47 AM »
My needlecase is over 100 years old and has a very thin blanket type fabric for the needles.  The family story is that it was made as a wedding present for my grandmother by her young cousin.

I saw this & I thought you may be interested! / Re: StyleArc Sale!!
« on: March 22, 2020, 14:17:16 PM »
I've just had an email from Style Arc saying that they are ceasing sales of printed patterns, fabrics, etc. with effect from tomorrow.  However, they are still going to be selling PDF patterns, they have a sale of these at the moment so it's probably checking out their website.

They say that sales of patterns through their Amazon will continue until they stop being able to ship the orders.
