Ha... not my finest hour, this March BOM.  I think the centre squares would have had to be smaller , as someone suggested, to get this layout to be 12.5” square. I lost patience and my outer strips are narrower.....
Who says they all have to be the same size?! :P  At least the colour contrast is better and finished quilt will only be for my spare room. I’ll keep the quilt police out of that room!

Thanks @Iminei . I am not used to following instructions as I tend to see things I like online and then just try to copy them. I’ve not learned many short cuts ( like strip piecing) apart from when I’m doing half square triangles and probably do some crazy things when I try to work out myself how to make a block. That’s why it’s been an interesting exercise to do the BOM. I know , from the Bagathon, what a lot of work tutorials are- so thank you! :)

Oh dear, I’m confused. I don’t think precision cutting tiny blocks is my thing.

@Iminei , I’ve got to the bit when you add a light strip to 2 of the blocks and 2 light strips to the other 2blocks. Before this I had 4 blocks with 2 light and 2 dark strips and they measured 5.5” x 5.5”. I thought once I’d added one strip more to 2 of them, those would then measure 6.5” x 5.5” and the other 2 would be 7.5” x 5.5”, but that doesn’t tie up with what you say. Have I strayed from the path somewhere?  :\

Time to stop for the night , I think! :drink: |O

Here is my first attempt at the big square. I’m trying not to buy new fabric, but I think there’s not enough contrast with these  >:). I like scrappy quilts and try to use as many bits as possible from my left overs box, but I think I might have to buy a few more mid blue fqs. I’ll  have a go at the small ones and try to get more contrast .

Probably a silly question @Iminei , but I am just working on the March block and it is going to be 12.5” without sashing, whereas the Feb block was 9.5” without sashing. Are the blocks going to be the same size as each other to make into a quilt or are these blocks intended as tutorials on the individual block type and then it’s up to us to adjust sizing if we want to make them into a quilt?
I’m just wondering whether to add extra coloured strips to my Feb block to make it 12.5” without sashing.  -<

Wow, @maliw , I’ve  heard of people knitting in airports, but not quilting! I don’t have the patience for EPP: always in too much of a rush to see results, but your hexagons look beautiful @CAFCgirl  :D

Can’t decide on mini or big block. I was thinking that the big block would go better with the January log cabin, but the mini ones would be more of a challenge  :[

You are all so fast, although I’ve been a bit obsessed with my Project Linus quilt.  Yes, I know there’s no rush, but once I start I’m always keen to get on and see how the blocks look together. I have all the PL blocks and sashing done now, so should have time for this soon. :D

Hi @Lowena. Do you mean that your blocks are smaller than they are supposed to be? It is quite possible to square a 6”x6” block, for example, using a 9.5” square ruler.
If your blocks are turning out smaller than they should be, it probably is your cutting. Do you use a ruler and rotary cutter? Usually that helps to keep things accurate-ish.

655
Cant believe that was 4 years ago @Sakar . Delighted to hear that you use them! :D

There are several tutorials on You tube @Lowena . Here is one that might help.

Spent the afternoon making  2 spring mug rugs ( mine are 6” square). I unexpectedly had no Gran duties today as my son-in-law had a weather related day off. Seemed a bit strange thinking of Spring as sleet lashed the sewing room window, but hopefully it’s not too far off. :flower: :drink:

No pictures of course!

Welcome @LouiseS , another Scottish quilter : there aren’t many of us this far north!  :D I’m sure you’ll enjoy this place and learn lots. Unpicking is all part of the fun!

Definitely block by  block, but then I do love scrappy quilts, so I don’t have to worry too much about running out of fabric! Cutting out is my least favourite bit, so I couldn’t do it all at once.

I’ll take part: it’ll be a nice quick thing to do, having started my b.o.m quilt and my project Linus one.
