House Beautiful / Upholstery fillings
« on: November 07, 2023, 09:48:52 AM »
I am going to reupholster my settee/chairs again but want to replace the back cushions with something softer. At the moment they are a shaped piece of foam, which were disintegrating last time i recovered them so dread to think what they are like now if i take of the covers.
Any ideas of what i could use instead? What are the seats/backs of  modern sofas filled with? And any suppliers you can recommend?
I have used E-Foam before for the seat pads and will probably replace the seat pads using foam.

Does anyone have this pattern?
Does it have lengthen/shorten lines? Thinking it would make a nice dress and the l/s lines would take the hard work out of
working out were to lengthen it from.

Why, when you finally decide to buy a very expensive pattern that you have been looking at for ages and the spend all afternoon making it do you decide you don't like it.
I bought the Bristol dress  pattern
The yoke is far too low on me and it feels like i am loosing my vest straps all the time and keep wanting to hitch the dress up. Plus it is too long and feels frumpy. Fabric was a stable knit from Fabworks, only £4 a metre so nothing lost there.
I will try again and modify the yoke/sleeves, the pattern was way too expensive to give up on it.

Looking for Lewis and Irene A Walk in the Glen Tumbled Westies in the gray/muddy lilac colour. I am about 1 metre short. Does anyone have any squirreled away that i could buy.
Have done a search but can only find the natural colour way, and literally dozens of pages of links to Sukilovestosew website and no other shops.
It is the fabric on the bottom row second in from right. here

Fun with Fabric / That's a first
« on: August 03, 2023, 17:45:21 PM »
He has asked me to make him the M&M Billy waistcoat/gillet. So i suggested a trip to Fabworks so he can pick what fabric he wants.
"OK but if we go there is no way you are just going to buy 1 piece of fabric" he says.
Well to prove him wrong we went, must admit i was getting palpitations and feeling a bit sweaty, but i did just buy the 1 piece  :faints:
When we got out side he said "i can't believe she was going to cut 15cm off the piece (i wanted 1.5 metres and the piece was 1.65) AND  that she had the audacity to charge you for the bit of extra, what would she have done with the scrap if you said you didn't want it?"
I remember the days if you wanted 1 1/2 yards and there was 2 left they used to give you the piece for the same price as 1 1/2. Oh those were the days.

A Good Yarn / Granny squares
« on: July 28, 2023, 09:37:25 AM »
Granny Squares how hard can they be  :S I have started the Rona cardy (Rowan)  which is made up of lots of different designs of granny squares. Never crocheted a GS before and just cannot get to grips with the colour change every row. Anyone any tips? I just either seem to have lots of tail ends or a stich that is half 1 colour and half the next. Thought this was going to be a quick make but it is turning into a nightmare.

I really like her style, particularly the denim dress she had on in children's week. Anyone  recognise the pattern? I am assuming she made it herself.

Patterns Discussion / Style Arc patterns, is it just me?
« on: May 30, 2023, 18:12:37 PM »
I have been using SA patterns for a while now, i must have all the shirt dress patterns. But, is it just me that has issues/problems. The lack of instructions does not bother me but every dress i have made there is just something wrong with it. When you read the reviews every one raves about them but i cannot be the only one who leaves negative reviews, can I?
For example, the Autumn dress, i made 2 of these back end of last summer, tried them on fitted fine but never got to wear them until this week. Ok for the first hour or so then they start to creep backwards and i end up forever pulling them back on my shoulder. Before you tell me i need to do a forward shoulder alteration the dresses literally end up 4 inch away from were they should fit so that is one big alteration.
Then the Eileen, nice easy pattern goes together quick, but, the front bodice is curved but the skirt is a straight edge so the dress has a strange uneven hem at the front, surely the skirt should have a corresponding curve so that the hem fall even/straight?
The Max tunic, the front is perfectly sized but the back has so much fabric i ended up putting a channel in for some elastic to take out the surplus.
Anything with a collar and stand i have learnt to cut the collar/stand at least 1 size bigger otherwise it will be too small.

Anyone else have the same issues or is it really just me.

Patterns Discussion / The asymmetric gather dress
« on: May 14, 2023, 17:36:55 PM »
I have had this  on my to make list for a while but at £14 for a pdf keep putting it to one side. I am sure i could adapt an existing pattern. I don't have any trouble with adapting for the sleeves and waist gathers but what to do for the neck line.
I am thinking cut and spread the neckline at one side of the pattern and then do the elastic casing to bring it back to shape.
Would this work? Any thought anyone?
