For Sale, Wanted & Free to a good home / Who wanted these?
« on: January 23, 2023, 16:02:20 PM »
Quite some time ago someone asked for variegated threads, I cannot remember who although @Puzzler comes to mind for some reason  :[

They might not have even posted on this topic threads but if you could identify yourself I have some to give away (I’ve been sorting) I’ll give it a while for that to happen if not they’ll be free to first come first served

They are Gutermann, 100% cotton, and most not used at all some used a tiny amount various colours as you should be able to see from the picture

Same here Henrietta fine for overlocker wouldn’t use any of their threads for proper sewing although ok if you tack or tailor tack

I like the first one although i would like wide legs I can’t wear it I would look like Humpty Dumpty or a weeble mine would have to be separates not because of the bathroom thing but because I too am long in the body like Brenda
I would wear a top of sorts underneath which would also help with the bathroom issue  0_0

Access All Accessories / Ollie Ella Soukie Backpack
« on: July 17, 2022, 14:31:56 PM »

I have a beach bag that is this shape, when on hols recently DH asked can't I make it into a back pack type thing by putting different straps on it? this is because we take a lot of stuff to the beach and mine just has a shoulder strap. So I did a search, it took me ages to find an example, I have new fabric I can use and I do like the leather and buckles although probably more practical will be the woven straps with clips, so a question to you bag makers out there is what suppliers do you use for the like of straps and buckles or other fastening and do you think I could find this combination of straps another way?
Part of the reason for asking is that if I make a new bag, I might be limited in it's size by the straps I can buy. although if I choose the woven strap and clips option I could probably make it any size I want to, but I really like the look of leather (or fake leather if that's what it is.
Opinions and thoughts welcome

In the wardrobe / Alter a pattern or a toile?
« on: May 02, 2022, 17:44:55 PM »
I was just wondering which method you prefer when making alterations for a garment

on the one hand you can measure and adjust the commercial pattern
on the other hand you can make up a toile according to the pattern sizing and then make alterations on the toile for areas where changes are needed.

Which do you do? I do a bit of both but the reason I am asking is this week I have been altering a pattern, mainly for practice before I show a class how to do it. I tend to stick to styles I already know will suit me and my shape and have slopers to use for reference.
Having altered the pattern according to the techniques, I then made a toile, mostly it was ok, especially in my problem areas which is what I altered first, but then found that the toile needed further adjustments in other areas, and I then transfered said alterations to the original pattern piece and then cut out the garment from the fabric I wanted to use.

In the past I have just gone with a toile first, then made alterations to it and then used the toile as the pattern which, to be fair, I find more accurate.

Let me know your thoughts please if you would, I have cake* to tempt you to respond  0_0

Disclaimer: please be aware that cake can totally destroy any work you do on altering patterns or toiles

Ho Hum I'll still do them, but it won't be for this comp.... but it will be for my summer holidays

That means I have until July

Finished this evening a lap blanket for one of the residents where I used to work who feels the cold when sat in the lounge of an evening, she’s a huge 99 year old favourite of mine

I have a full set of crochet hooks in a case, all metal, had them forever and although I’ve tried handled ones in various guises I can’t get on with them but that’s probably more to do with me than them  0_0
I like familiar

In the wardrobe / Re: RTW trouser alterations
« on: January 23, 2022, 08:47:15 AM »
Yep scooping out is what I would try first, I've done that on trousers with hungry bums and it worked  :thumb: although it always feels counterintuitive  :[

I have also altered that type of trouser, my walking ones, and yes they're a pain to unpick  but usually look ok in the end

If the back door is now closed I can’t see the need for any of the changes suggested here
